Women in Plastics Italy grows and strengthens its structures

Women in Plastics Italy grows…

The annual general meeting of Women in Plastics Italy took place on 13 April at Smartt Valley in Daverio, in the province of Varese. The meeting, one of the most important items in the association’s calendar, confirmed the organisation’s continued development since its establishment. Women in Plastics Italy works to promote female talent and support a more inclusive and sustainable culture in the plastics industry. The assembly provided an opportunity to review achievements to date, discuss ongoing activities, and define future directions. As highlighted during the meeting, the association has doubled its membership base in a short period and built an increasingly active and engaged community. Since the beginning of its activity, the organisation has been developing practical initiatives, supporting relationship building, and promoting an approach based on inclusivity, sustainability, and skills development.

New appointments to the association’s governing bodies

During the assembly, two new members of the Board of Directors were elected, Erica Cantillo and Francesca Minarini, who are expected to support the further strengthening of the organisation’s governance structures. Elisa Aghemo was also appointed to the Board of Auditors.

As indicated, these appointments represent an important step in terms of ensuring both operational continuity and organisational renewal, in line with the values of Women in Plastics Italy, based on participation and shared responsibility.

Growing international relevance

One of the most important outcomes of the meeting was the approval of a document prepared by the Board of Directors that sets out guidelines for the use of the WIPS-It brand by international organisations interested in implementing this operating model.

This decision shows the association’s growing importance beyond Italy. Similar initiatives are already developing in other countries, with WIPS Austria as an example already in operation. The organisation’s objective is both to protect and promote its core values, so that the WIPS model can be replicated in different settings, with respect for local cultures and while preserving its identity.

Working groups and further activities

A significant part of the meeting was devoted to the working groups, which form the central element of the association’s activity. Updates were presented on completed projects, ongoing initiatives, and new proposals currently under development. This was also a moment to present results, collect feedback, and further strengthen active member engagement.

Alongside the formal agenda, the event once again served an important networking function, creating numerous opportunities for participants to exchange experience and contacts. The day concluded with a visit to the Smartt Valley facility and a talk dedicated to social selling, which is consistent with the organisation’s ongoing efforts to support the professional development of its members through useful tools and competencies.

President Miriam Olivi said: "The growth we have experienced in recent months was far from guaranteed; although our goal was clear, achieving it required focus, dedication, professionalism, and strong shared determination. Today, Women in Plastics Italy is a vibrant and dynamic network, actively connecting individuals, companies, and institutions. It is a space where genuine dialogue takes place and where many women finally find an environment for listening, expression, and growth. Change is not something to wait for, it is already happening, and we are actively part of it."
