Sirmax Group, a manufacturer of thermoplastic compounds headquartered in Cittadella near Padua, is celebrating 20 years since the start of production at its Polish plant in Kutno, located in the Łódź Special Economic Zone. The anniversary was marked with an event attended by employees, partners and representatives of institutions. The Polish plant was the group’s first foreign facility and at the same time the starting point for its international expansion. Since operations began, the site’s development has been linked to successive investments, expansion of production capacity and a broader materials portfolio. Sirmax Polska currently employs 132 people, operates 16 production lines and has a production capacity of about 85,000 tonnes per year. The total area of the plant exceeds 100,000 square metres, of which 30,000 square metres are covered area.
Operations in Poland started in 2006 with the opening of the first plant. Over two decades, with total investments exceeding PLN 300 million, equivalent to about EUR 70 million, employment increased from 20 to 132, while the number of production lines rose from two to 16. As a result, the Kutno site evolved from the group’s first foreign unit into one of Sirmax’s key industrial centres in Europe.
Expansion of the plant and materials portfolio
The first stage of the company’s presence in Kutno was the Kutno 1 plant, focused on the production of polypropylene compounds. In 2020, it was joined by Kutno 2, a plant specialising in high-performance glass fibre reinforced materials. The investments made it possible to expand the product range, from standard polypropylene grades to multi-component materials intended for more demanding applications.
According to the company, the development of its Polish operations has involved not only increasing production volumes, but also gradually strengthening the site’s role within the group’s overall structure. Kutno has become an important industrial base for Sirmax’s European operations, both in terms of production scale and the range of materials offered.

Sustainability, innovation and continuity of operations
In recent years, Sirmax Polska has developed activities related to sustainability, innovation and operational resilience. These included the development of compounds containing recycled raw materials and low-emission materials, as well as the implementation of tools based on artificial intelligence and simulations to support design, processes and planning.
The company also emphasizes that it maintained continuity of production during the Covid-19 pandemic, and then strengthened its supply chain following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and under the conditions of the energy crisis in 2022. These measures were intended to support the plant’s operational stability in a changing market and geopolitical environment.
Awards and relations with the local environment
The development of Sirmax Polska has been recognised with a number of awards. The company mentions, among others, Green Planet 2024 awarded by Basf Polska, the Grohman Award, a distinction received during the 4th Forum of Investors and Exporters, and the Gazzetta Italia 2025 Award. The company also obtained the Great Place to Work 2025 certificate, which according to the company confirms its position as an investor and employer active in the local labour market.
In addition to industrial operations, Sirmax Polska is involved in cooperation with the local community in Kutno. According to the company, this includes support for sports, cultural, educational and charitable initiatives, as well as activities carried out jointly with schools and organisations. The company indicates that an important element of this activity is also the promotion of the circular economy and issues related to sustainability.
Massimo Pavin, chairman and chief executive officer of Sirmax Group, said: "Reaching this milestone was possible thanks to a solid and consistent investment and development programme, developed in cooperation with the local community". Referring to the importance of the Kutno plant for the entire group, he added: "Twenty years ago, Kutno became the place of our first step beyond Italy’s borders. Today, it is one of the group’s most important industrial centres in Europe, a modern, efficient and constantly evolving hub that has grown together with our customers and the local community".
As Massimo Pavin also noted: "The choice of Poland stemmed from trust, in the people, in the region, and in the possibility of building shared value over time. We look to the future with the intention of further strengthening Kutno’s role as the group’s European platform, capable of supporting Sirmax’s international growth, accelerating innovation in materials, and contributing to the transition toward increasingly sustainable industrial models".
