Chem-Courier: polish polypropylene market under pressure from imports and low demand

Chem-Courier: polish polypropylene…

The situation on the Polish polypropylene market remains stable but difficult. Low demand and the presence of cheap imported material are limiting the ability of producers and trading companies to maintain polypropylene prices. Traders indicate that prices have already bottomed out, but they continue to offer discounts, often reducing their own margins to retain customers.

The situation should remain relatively stable in the coming weeks, but at the beginning of October, prices may slightly decline due to continued weak demand, even if propylene prices remain stable in the following month.

Discussions about the potential introduction of zero tariffs on American industrial goods are adding to the uncertainty and pessimism among market participants. On the other hand, the 15% tariff on European cars and car parts in the USA has been negatively affecting the regional market for several months.

Homopolymer market:

  • Demand remained low, but some traders noted that sales of the material were better than for polyethylene;
  • The most frequent buyers were manufacturers of film and packaging for the household appliances industry.

Copolymer market:

  • Activity was low; some traders described the situation as ‘quiet’ on the market;
  • The buyers of copolymers were mainly manufacturers of food film and containers.
