Syensqo has achieved its highest-ever score in the global CDP rating, obtaining an A for climate and an A- for water security. This places the company on CDP’s A List as one of the global leaders in transparency in climate action reporting. According to the information provided, this result means that Syensqo ranks among approximately 4% of the top-rated companies assessed by CDP. At the same time, the improved score in water management reflects the development of systematic management practices and the continuation of measures for responsible use of water resources.
CDP assessment for 2025
CDP, a global non-profit organization focused on environmental disclosure, has awarded Syensqo an A rating for climate action for 2025. Compared with the A- rating for 2024, this represents a further improvement and the company’s inclusion among entities classified on the A List. The company interprets its listing as confirmation of progress in both transparency of reporting and implementation of its climate impact reduction strategy.
In parallel, Syensqo has improved its rating in the area of water security. In 2025, the company obtained an A- score, compared with a B the year before. According to the company, the higher rating results from the implementation of water resource management practices and from its stated commitment to responsible water use, for example by advancing tailored water stewardship plans at 15 key sites in 2026.
Role of the One Planet roadmap
Syensqo links its results to the implementation of its One Planet roadmap, which is intended to be integrated into the company’s operations. “Our progress in the One Planet roadmap, deeply rooted in our business operations over the last couple of years, is the direct result of the unwavering commitment of our teams to innovation,” said Dr Ilham Kadri, CEO of Syensqo. “Earning a CDP top rating shows the strength of the foundations we have built over the past seven years since the creation of One Planet and supports our ambition to lead in sustainability while creating lasting value for our stakeholders.”
The importance of environmental issues for the company’s strategy was also underlined by Titta Rosvall-Puplett, Chief Sustainability Officer at Syensqo. “Sustainability is central to our strategy and to the value we bring to our customers, shareholders and society,” she said. “Climbing to an A rating in 2025, two years after the launch of Syensqo, is a remarkable achievement and positions our organization among global leaders. This recognition underscores the strength of our climate action and risk mitigation.”
Climate targets and emissions reduction
As part of the One Planet roadmap, Syensqo states that it aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2040. The company maintains that it remains on track to meet its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets for 2030. These targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and include a 42% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 25% reduction in scope 3 emissions in the five categories defined as Focus 5 compared with a 2021 baseline.
The implementation of these objectives is intended to provide a basis for further reduction of the carbon footprint of Syensqo’s industrial activities, including processes related to the production of chemical and material products used, among others, in the plastics sector. The company notes that validation of the targets by SBTi provides external confirmation that its emissions reduction pathway is aligned with climate science requirements.
Water management and risk mitigation
The A- rating obtained by Syensqo in the area of water stewardship reflects, according to the company’s statement, a consistent approach to water management. In September 2024, the company announced a target to reduce freshwater withdrawal by 20% by 2030, compared with a 2021 baseline, at sites located in areas exposed to water scarcity risks, while assuming continued growth of business activities.
Developing water stewardship plans at key production sites is intended to enable better alignment of actions with local hydrological and regulatory conditions. In practice, this may include, among other measures, optimization of process water consumption, increasing the level of water recirculation and reducing effluent discharges, which is particularly important in chemical and materials sectors with high water use.
The CDP 2025 results indicate that Syensqo continues to systematically implement its environmental strategy under the One Planet roadmap, both in terms of emissions reduction and water management. For the chemical and polymer sectors, this may serve as an example of integrating climate and water targets into long-term operational planning.
