SKZ expands services in the…

Kunststoff-Zentrum Skz is strategically expanding its service portfolio in the field of elastomers, offering companies comprehensive support, from in-depth material analysis to the development of sustainable applications. The institute states that, thanks to its broad materials expertise and modern testing technologies, it helps identify new opportunities for high-performance, cost-effective and resource-saving elastomer systems. Elastomers remain a material group of major importance in many everyday applications and in key industrial sectors. Due to their high elasticity, resilience and resistance to various stresses, they are widely used in seals, tires, hoses, medical products and technical molded parts, among other applications. The ability to tailor their properties to specific requirements means they play an important role in the functioning of modern polymer applications.

In response to these needs, Skz combines its many years of experience in research, development and industry-oriented implementation. The expanded range of services includes a combination of established testing methods and more advanced approaches to material characterization. Available activities include rheological investigations used to assess material behavior during processing, dynamic mechanical analysis for the characterization of viscoelastic properties, as well as aging and resistance tests conducted under conditions corresponding to real applications. In addition, the institute supports the development and optimization of new elastomer formulations and the assessment of sustainable material alternatives.

Material development with application and environmental aspects in mind

Particular emphasis is placed on a holistic approach to the material and its application. Skz points to targeted optimization of material properties, identification of additional processing potential, and consideration of growing environmental requirements. As a result, companies are expected to receive not only reliable analytical data, but also specific application-oriented recommendations for optimizing products and processes.

As Thomas Zimmermann, Head of Networked Materials at Skz, explains, "Requirements for elastomers are constantly increasing, both in terms of performance and sustainability. Our goal is to support companies in developing innovative and economically viable solutions. Our interdisciplinary approach allows us to effectively link material development, processing and application."

Further development of the service portfolio is intended to strengthen Skz's role as a partner for industry and research in the field of elastomers. According to the institute, customers benefit from a combination of scientific background, practical implementation approach, and a broad network covering the plastics industry value chain.
