In the last week of May, the price of propylene for June was announced, remaining unchanged compared to May. A slight increase in demand for polypropylene is forecasted for June, as for many converters it will be a month preceding planned shutdowns or holidays. However, no significant activity is expected due to the overall European trend of weak demand, particularly in the automotive sector.
Under conditions of low demand, maintaining prices at the current level throughout the month would be a favourable scenario for producers and traders. An additional factor supporting price stabilization may be the rising cost of deliveries from Asia.
To summarize the polypropylene market situation at the end of May:
- The end of May was characterized by low activity in the polypropylene market; market players are awaiting the announcement of new prices;
- Prices for homopolymers were flexible - many traders offered small discounts;
- The average market price of homopolymers remained at mid-month levels, indicating attempts to stabilize prices;
- After the announcement of the propylene price, some traders noted an increase in demand for copolymers, although the number of purchasing customers remained limited;
- A local polypropylene producer encountered difficulties in the production of this material at the beginning of May 2025, but resumed production without interruption after 20 May.
