Chem Courier: overview of the PE market in Poland - low activity and stable prices

Chem Courier: overview of…

The second week of July was a period of low activity on the Polish polyethylene market, especially on the part of converters. Many producers and traders do not anticipate any significant changes in the coming days, assuming that prices will remain stable and demand for polyethylene will remain low.

  • One factor that could boost demand is the possibility of production stoppages or delays among European polyethylene producers. Such situations could limit the availability of the material and help keep prices at their current level, despite weak demand. Most market players expect August to start with price stabilisation, unless there are any unexpected geopolitical events.
  • Demand for HDPE in the second half of July was weak. However, HDPE for blow moulding and pipe production enjoyed greater interest.
  •  A power outage at one of the plants in the Czech Republic affected production and availability of the material. Work is underway to restore production, which may affect the limited availability of HDPE in the short term.
  • Activity on the LDPE market was also limited. Traders reported that sales of this material were around 20% of normal levels. Despite this, packaging and film manufacturers remained stable buyers of LLDPE.
