Borealis leads Austria's Technology…

Borealis has once again taken first place in Austria's Technology Dashboard 2025 of the European Patent Office. The company has been recognized as the country's leading innovator, achieving a total of 115 new priority patent applications in 2025. The Technology Dashboard, previously known as the European Patent Index, ranks companies according to their patenting activity. This result confirms Borealis' long-term commitment to innovation and its role as one of Europe's most forward-looking chemical and materials companies.

The global portfolio of Borealis comprises more than 10,600 granted and pending patents, which underlines the importance of innovation as a key component of the We4Customers strategy. Each new patent strengthens the company's ability to secure sustainable growth, reinforces its competitive position and supports the delivery of customer solutions with lasting impact. Intellectual property protection is a crucial pillar of this approach, enabling the long-term use of developed technologies.

Customer-driven innovation

At Borealis, the innovation process starts with identifying customer needs. Cross-functional teams work together continuously, from the first concept through to customer validation, to transform market requirements into scalable solutions. This includes the development of both lighter materials and recyclable packaging solutions. Each outcome reflects the innovation-based strategy and the focus on practical, measurable market impact.

Proven technologies are then brought under protection within the company's extensive intellectual property framework. The objective is to secure their value over the long term and to ensure that the developed solutions can be consistently used to build a competitive advantage in the chemicals and materials market.

The role of collaboration in creating innovation

The comprehensive approach adopted by Borealis combines market insights, technical expertise and structured intellectual property management. Cooperation between internal teams and with customers plays a key role in turning initial ideas into concrete patented solutions. In this way, innovations support the implementation of the company's growth strategy while at the same time benefiting industry and society.

"Our leadership in Austria's Technology Dashboard shows how consistently we turn customer needs into cutting-edge innovation. The ranking highlights our progress and confirms the strength of our innovation-driven strategy that pushes the boundaries of what is possible" says Borealis CEO Stefan Doboczky.
