Syensqo introduces medical-grade Amodel PPA for medical devices

Syensqo introduces medical-grade…

Syensqo has introduced a medical-grade, glass-filled Amodel polyphthalamide designed for advanced single-use medical devices and subassemblies. The grade combines high heat resistance with electrical insulation and biocompatibility for limited contact duration applications. The material features a melting point above 300 °C and retains mechanical strength at temperatures up to 280 °C. This thermal profile supports exposure to high-temperature manufacturing steps, including surface-mount technology assembly and infrared reflow, as well as metal overmolding. According to the company, the material is aimed at electrosurgical instruments and electronic device assemblies where injection-molded geometries and tight tolerances are required. By pairing a glass-reinforced PPA backbone with a healthcare-focused formulation, the new grade addresses single-use instruments that must tolerate fabrication steps and brief thermal excursions while maintaining electrical insulation and mechanical performance.

Material properties and processing window

Amodel PPA is positioned for applications that demand sustained dimensional stability and strength at elevated temperatures. With a melting point above 300 °C and the ability to maintain mechanical strength up to 280 °C, the grade is suited to processes that subject parts to short, intense heat exposure. Syensqo highlights compatibility with SMT assembly and IR reflow, as well as metal overmolding, broadening options for integrating molded structures with electronic and metallic components. The glass-filled construction supports stiffness and stability, and the material’s electrically insulative character addresses requirements in circuit-adjacent and insulated component designs.

Target applications and availability

The company identifies electrosurgical instruments and electronic device assemblies as primary targets, particularly where complex, injection-molded geometries confer design and manufacturing advantages. The grade is intended for limited contact duration uses that call for biocompatibility alongside thermal robustness and electrical insulation. "For decades, brands like Radel and Udel have helped advance medical technologies. With medical-grade Amodel PPA, we’re extending that legacy, giving customers a new option for devices that must withstand modern assembly processes," said Natalie Dragunat, Global Marketing Manager, Healthcare at Syensqo. The medical-grade Amodel PPA is available for sampling, with commercial availability expected in 2026.
