Sidel to showcase packaging technologies at Djazagro

Sidel to showcase packaging…

Sidel will participate in Djazagro 2026, described as the Maghreb's leading trade show for food processing, packaging and manufacturing technologies. During the event, held in Algiers from 13 to 16 April, the company will present its complete packaging line portfolio, from advanced PET blowing systems to aseptic filling, barrier coating and digital solutions. According to the company, the technologies on display are intended to address the production challenges faced by beverage manufacturers in the region.

Davide Franzoni, Sales Director for Africa and the Middle East at Sidel, said: "The Maghreb is currently one of the most compelling beverage markets on the continent. Producers here are ambitious, they are investing, and they are looking for technology that can genuinely grow with them. That is precisely what Sidel is designed to deliver, not a single product, but a partnership spanning the full arc of a producer's development."

According to the information provided by the company, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia form one of the most active beverage manufacturing corridors on the African continent. Consumer demand continues to grow, driven by a young and increasingly urbanised population, strong seasonal sales peaks in a hot climate, and a clear shift in preference towards PET packaging in the water, juice, nectar, carbonated soft drinks and dairy segments. At the same time, manufacturers must respond to rising raw material and utility costs, increasing food safety requirements from modern retail channels, and growing pressure related to environmental responsibility in operations.

The company also indicates that, thanks to its extensive installed base in North Africa, it is engaging with manufacturers at different stages of investment, from initial implementation of hot-fill technology in PET bottles, through upgrades of existing blowing lines, to the adoption of aseptic technologies that make it possible to expand product portfolios and extend shelf life without preservatives.

Technologies on display

At this year's stand, visitors will be able to see a demonstration of the EvoBLOW EHR system, a platform for blowing heat-resistant PET packaging that uses electrical resistance heating instead of traditional oil-heated moulds. The solution is intended for producers of hot-filled beverages such as juices, nectars, isotonic drinks and teas. According to Sidel, the technology provides faster mould temperature response, consistent bottle quality from the first production cycle, and an oil-free process, which is intended to improve both hygiene and operator safety.

This presentation is part of a broader discussion of the company's full technology portfolio. Among Sidel's latest solutions are EvoBLOW Laser, which uses laser-based preform heating to achieve a very high degree of lightweighting and compatibility with rPET, aseptic filling solutions based on the Predis dry preform sterilisation platform, and ACTIS plasma barrier coating technology. According to the company, the ACTIS system can extend the shelf life of sensitive beverages in PET packaging by up to five times.

Support throughout the investment lifecycle

Sidel states that its packaging design and optimisation services support manufacturers in developing bottle formats that are competitive on the shelf, efficient in production and adapted to local logistics requirements. The offer is complemented by regional spare parts availability, line assessments and operator training. As a result, producers in the Maghreb are intended to have access to technical support throughout the full operating life of their investment.
