Amcor obtains RecyClass certification for Bontite films

Amcor obtains RecyClass certification…

Amcor has obtained RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification in accordance with EN15343 for selected specifications of Bontite Sustane stretch film. The certification applies to products containing a defined share of post-consumer recycled material, PCR, and is relevant for customers preparing for changes to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax, PPT, which are due to take effect from April 2027. Under these changes, pre-consumer recycled content, PIR, will no longer count towards the 30% threshold, and only post-consumer recycled content will be accepted. For users of industrial and secondary packaging, this means that documented origin of recycled raw material and compliance of claims with recognised European standards will become more important.

Bontite films are manufactured at Amcor facilities in Leominster, United Kingdom, and Zele, Belgium. This is a range of pallet stretch wrap films produced using blown film technology from linear low-density polyethylene, LLDPE. These materials are intended to secure and stabilise palletised loads during transport. According to the company, the films combine the toughness typical of blown film with the clarity associated with cast film. Depending on specification and application, they can provide high holding force, puncture resistance and significant stretch performance. Amcor also states that, with technical support, it is possible to optimise the wrapping process, reduce film consumption, improve load stability and potentially lower total cost of ownership.

RecyClass certification confirms that recycled plastics used in finished products are independently audited, fully traceable throughout the production process and aligned with recognised European standards. This is relevant not only in the context of the UK market. Across Europe, reporting requirements related to Extended Producer Responsibility fees, local packaging taxes and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation are becoming more important. According to the company, RecyClass provides customers with independently verified evidence that can reduce the risk of compliance gaps and strengthen the reliability of sustainability reporting.

As Gabriele Ditsch, Sales Director at Amcor, said, "Certification strengthens customer confidence that their packaging choices support compliance with evolving regulation". She also added, "Our certified Bontite Sustane stretch films provide independent assurance of recycled content claims and reinforce Amcor’s ability to scale verified PCR solutions across industrial and secondary packaging".

Importance for logistics and secondary packaging

Bontite stretch films are used by customers in the beverage, manufacturing, retail and consumer goods sectors, where load security, operational efficiency and product protection are critical. For companies managing high-volume distribution networks, combining the performance characteristics of stretch film with verified PCR content can help balance operational requirements with environmental objectives. In this case, independent RecyClass certification is intended to provide additional confirmation that claims regarding recycled content are reliable and transparent throughout the supply chain.

Amcor also reported that RecyClass certification has been confirmed for a range of flexible packaging solutions manufactured at its UK sites in Ardeer, Bromborough and Winsford. Additional certifications obtained in Steinfeld, Germany, Hardenberg, the Netherlands, Roeselare, Belgium, and Zdzieszowice, Poland, are intended to confirm the company’s ability to supply solutions with verified recycled-content levels across different product categories and production locations throughout Europe.
