Rexelian launches recycled polyolefin compounds for mobility

Rexelian launches recycled…

Rexelian has entered the European plastics market as an independent compounder focused on high-performance recycled polyolefin materials for mobility, appliances and electronics. The company is headquartered in Sant Cugat del Vallés near Barcelona and positions itself close to key logistics in the region. While structured as a standalone business, Rexelian has direct access to the recycling and compounding infrastructure of GCR Group, which totals more than 500 kt per year of installed capacity. The firm plans to utilize about 10 percent of that capacity for its specialized portfolio, creating a degree of integration from feedstock to compound that is uncommon among independent suppliers. The launch follows groundwork started in mid-2024, including product development, regional sales coverage and partnerships aimed at automotive-grade applications, with an emphasis on traceability, consistent quality and alignment with circular economy objectives and EU requirements on recycled content. The company states that its mission is to help customers reduce CO2 footprints, meet 2030 circularity targets and replace virgin materials without sacrificing performance.

Company overview and positioning

The business has assembled a team of direct sales managers and application development engineers covering Iberia, France, Italy, Germany and Eastern Europe. According to the company, the group brings extensive industry experience with an automotive focus to support OEM and Tier 1 and Tier 2 requirements. Rexelian presents itself as a local partner to European industry, supported by short supply chains and proximity to the Tarragona petrochemical cluster and the Port of Barcelona.

Rexelian operates independently while drawing on GCR Group’s industrial scale. With access to certified and traceable recycled feedstock via a dedicated sourcing team, the company aims to provide supply security and consistent quality across programs.

“Rexelian represents a new generation of companies, agile, technically driven, and fully aligned with the demands of the circular economy,” said Antoni González, General Director of Rexelian. “We don't just make recycled compounds. We develop material solutions that help our customers meet their CO2 reduction targets without compromising technical performance.”

Portfolio and target applications

The initial portfolio comprises recycled polypropylene and polyethylene compounds based on post-industrial and post-consumer sources, offered in multiple talc-filled grades and custom colors. Target applications include interior, exterior and under-the-hood automotive parts, as well as large and small appliances and electronic casings and structural components.

With automotive electrification and lightweighting accelerating, the company positions its compounds to address material specifications under regulatory and OEM programs that require recycled content. Rexelian indicates it is already running pilot projects that demonstrate compliance with OEM specifications while improving eco-balance scores.

Quality, R&D and compliance

Rexelian reports ongoing investment in innovation, application testing and regulatory compliance. The company is on track to obtain an IATF 16949 Letter of Conformity by the end of 2025, and states that ISO certifications are integrated into its operational standards from the outset. The integrated value chain from feedstock to compound is cited as enabling full traceability and quality consistency. Rexelian also works with OEMs, Tier suppliers and technical centers to co-develop and validate new formulations.

“Our customers understand that sustainability is no longer optional,” added Antoni Gonzalez, General Manager of Rexelian. “They need reliable partners with the capability, flexibility, and technical know-how to ensure consistent delivery and supply security- and that's exactly what Rexelian offers.”

End-of-life vehicles and market outlook

The company is preparing for regulatory momentum into the early 2030s, including ELV requirements, and highlights the introduction of end-of-life vehicles materials as a viable feedstock within the circular economy. Rexelian attributes this capability to its process expertise and technology. As EU mandates on recycled content continue to expand across automotive and electronics, the company aims to provide immediate and scalable options to support compliance.
