Klöckner Pentaplast launches new kp Infinity trays

Klöckner Pentaplast launches…

Klöckner Pentaplast has expanded the kp Infinity portfolio with a new range of trays for packed fresh fruit. The new formats were developed for whole fruit such as apples and pears. The company indicates that the solution builds on experience from earlier kp Infinity applications in the food-to-go packaging segment and brings the same performance features to the fresh produce market, namely low weight, durability and a monomaterial design that is fully recyclable. The expansion of the offering aligns with the growing market focus on packaging with improved recyclability, while maintaining attractive on-shelf product presentation and reducing food waste across the supply chain. The manufacturer emphasizes that the new range was developed in response to the expectations of retailers, producers and consumers, who are placing increasing importance on the environmental aspects of packaging and its protective function.

kp Infinity fruit trays are made from expanded polypropylene, EPP. This material is intended to provide full recyclability together with a combination of low weight and mechanical resistance, helping to protect packed fruit at subsequent stages of the supply chain. According to the company, this design supports the reduction of product damage and losses. The trays also have a traditional, artisanal look intended to enhance product display, while their stackable form is designed to facilitate handling, transport and storage. The manufacturer also points to clear recycling information placed on the packaging and addressed directly to consumers, which is intended to facilitate correct sorting after use and support participation in recycling systems.

Performance parameters and film integration

Klöckner Pentaplast also reports that kp Infinity fruit trays have a lower carbon footprint and require less water and energy in production compared with alternative packaging materials. According to the company, this is intended to help customers meet broader sustainability goals. For customers seeking a complete packaging solution, the trays can be combined with a kp FlexiStretch overwrap or kp FlexiFlow films. In this configuration, the solutions are intended to provide appropriate product presentation and protection, while also helping to maintain the quality of fresh fruit from the packing line to the retail shelf.

Austin Schwarz, Sales Director for the UK and Ireland in the kp Food Packaging division, said: “Following the success of kp Infinity in food-to-go applications, we identified growing demand for recyclable packaging solutions in the fresh produce sector. The new fruit tray range combines the durability, presentation and recyclability customers expect in a format designed specifically for whole fruit such as apples and pears.”

He added: “When combined with a kp FlexiStretch overwrap or our kp FlexiFlow films, customers can obtain a complete packaging solution from a single supplier, benefiting from simplified procurement, technical expertise and consistent packaging performance across the supply chain.”

The launch of the new range strengthens the company’s portfolio in fresh produce packaging and confirms its development direction focused on solutions intended to support customers in achieving environmental and operational objectives.
