Ginstberg selects Amcor closure for glass bottles

Ginstberg selects Amcor closure…

Belgian mineral water brand Ginstberg has selected Amcor’s 28 mm two-piece tamper-evident closure, developed specifically for glass bottles. The supplier states that the solution combines product protection and tamper evidence with convenient opening and reclosing for consumers. The Amcor 28 mm Flat Cap for Glass Tamper Evident closure features a patented lightweight design and has been developed for both still and carbonated beverages. According to the manufacturer, it supports carbonation levels of up to 4.3 vol. The solution is also available with ISCC+ certification, intended to ensure traceability of the share of recycled feedstock. For beverage producers using glass packaging, the closure’s technical parameters, functional requirements and alignment with the direction of regulatory changes concerning returnable and reusable packaging are all important.

Ginstberg operates on the edge of the Flemish Ardennes and is officially recognized as natural mineral water. The water is bottled directly at the source, with no additives and no additional processing. The company also emphasizes that, thanks to the location of the spring, the product contains no nitrates and has a low salt content. In the brand’s communication, packaging quality plays an important role in supporting the message related to the product’s purity and characteristics.

Evi Van De Velde, COO of Ginstberg, said: “The consumer experience with our brand begins with the packaging, so the closure must be durable, reliable, and easy to open and reclose, while at the same time providing assurance that the package has not previously been tampered with. The Amcor closure offers both the necessary technical and aesthetic features.”

Application scope and regulatory context

The 28 mm Flat Cap for Glass Tamper Evident closure is part of Amcor’s broader range of closures, designed for the specific requirements of carbonated and still products, as well as glass and plastic bottles in various sizes. The manufacturer notes that, as the rollout of deposit return systems accelerates in Europe and regulations concerning returnable and reusable packaging become more stringent, closures that ensure reliable performance on returnable bottles are becoming a strategically important investment for water brands.

Amcor reports that its portfolio, including the 28 mm Flat Cap for Glass TE, 28 mm PolyVent and 28 mm PolyGuard models, has already been tested in reusable bottle systems. According to the company, these solutions are intended to support the circular economy and compliance with future regulatory requirements.

Uli Kolbert, product line manager, beverage closures & home care triggers at Amcor Global Rigid Packaging Solutions, stated: “The closure is the first element of the packaging that the consumer comes into contact with, so it plays a very important role in building acceptance and brand loyalty. Our range of solutions prepared for applications in reusable packaging has been developed for both glass and PET bottles, so that brands can adapt to changing regulations in Europe.”
