Aimplas, a technology centre specialising in plastics, closed the 2025 financial year with total revenue exceeding EUR 26.7 million, which represents year-on-year growth of more than 10%. In the year of its 35th anniversary, the organisation exceeded 3,500 client companies and reached 900 member companies. As reported during the Governing Board meeting, member companies jointly achieved savings of EUR 770 thousand thanks to membership benefits. In the past year, Aimplas also carried out more than 300 research, development and innovation projects, performed more than 9,000 laboratory analysis services and delivered nearly 5,000 hours of specialised training for companies. According to the centre, activity in the R&D&I area generated EUR 87.5 million in return for companies using these activities.
Aimplas President José Luis Yusá said: "The 2025 results show that every euro invested in Aimplas generates a multiplier effect for companies in the form of technology, knowledge and real opportunities to compete in increasingly demanding markets. Our purpose is to bring innovation closer to small and medium-sized enterprises and support them in challenges ranging from regulatory compliance to the development of new products. To continue fulfilling this mission, we are already working on the major challenges that will shape our strategy in the coming years: sector digitalisation, the incorporation of artificial intelligence, internationalisation, the transition towards climate neutrality, and the promotion of dual-use technologies that create value for both civil and defence industry."
Dominant share of R&D&I activity
Research, development and innovation activity accounted for 70% of Aimplas revenue. A total of 653 companies participated in this activity, and 34% of the projects had an international scope. At the regional level, significant support came from the Valencian Institute for Competitiveness and Innovation, IVACE+i, operating within the Generalitat Valenciana. Thanks to a dedicated funding line, the institute was able to conduct independent research, anticipate market needs and enable high-value knowledge transfer. This support covered research into advanced recycling, circular economy, sustainable chemistry, packaging, materials for sustainable mobility and energy, as well as solutions for high-tech agriculture using plastics and food safety in the context of future regulatory requirements.
As an example of the practical impact of this work, Aimplas pointed to Scootech, the intelligent electric scooter developed by the centre. This solution integrates advanced plastronics technologies to improve safety, efficiency and the sustainability profile of urban mobility. The demonstrator uses flexible electronics, integrated sensors and advanced touch solutions, and is intended to show the possibility of transferring Aimplas technologies to sectors such as automotive, electronics and healthcare. Aimplas Managing Director José Antonio Costa stated: "Every project, every service and every test we carry out has a clear goal, transforming knowledge into useful solutions for companies. Examples such as Scootech demonstrate our ability to turn pioneering technologies into practical innovations that can be applied across many sectors, helping to build a more innovative, safer and more environmentally responsible industry."
Laboratory services and training
In 2025, Aimplas developed its laboratory capabilities, among other things, by implementing accelerated biodegradation tests, obtaining new recognitions from entities such as Din Certco and BPI in the field of biodegradation and compostability analyses, and through accreditations, including Volkswagen approval. According to the information provided, this enabled the Aimplas Automotive Laboratory, as the first in Spain, to conduct in-vehicle emissions tests. In total, the centre carried out 9,165 analytical and testing services for 1,027 clients, which accounted for 25% of the organisation's revenue.
Training activities accounted for 3% of the institute's turnover. More than 3,200 specialists from 1,000 companies completed 4,900 hours of specialised training delivered by Aimplas as part of 225 scheduled technical courses. The centre emphasises that this area remains an important element of support for industry, addressing skills needs, supporting knowledge transfer and talent development. According to the institute, consistent activity in this area has strengthened its position as a reference centre for technical training with a practical, up-to-date and flexible approach.
Employment and environmental measures
All of this activity was carried out by a team of more than 270 people in 2025. Aimplas also reported the renewal, for the third year in a row, of its Great Place to Work certification, which relates to employee wellbeing and organisational culture. In the environmental area, the centre registered its carbon footprint for the sixth consecutive year in the official Miteco registry and once again obtained the Calculo, Reduzco, Compenso label after reducing emissions by 40% compared with the average of the previous three years, to 33.56 tCO2e.
In addition, Aimplas compensated these emissions through a forestry project in Torrejón de la Calzada and developed its long-term absorption strategy by creating its own corporate forest. This is a 1.5-hectare area in Villargordo del Cabriel, where employees and their families planted 500 trees that are expected to absorb 30 tonnes of CO2 in the coming years. According to the centre, these measures are part of its pursuit of a more sustainable future and of linking research activity and organisational growth with environmental protection and a contribution to climate neutrality.
As a result of its social and environmental performance, Aimplas renewed in 2025 its registration in the Valencian Registry of Socially Responsible Entities, SIR, managed by the regional ministry of finance, economy and public administration. As indicated, this renewal confirms compliance with demanding criteria concerning governance, environmental sustainability, social impact and transparency.
