Plastotecnica celebrates 50 years of operation

Plastotecnica celebrates 50…

Plastotecnica, a producer of flexible polyethylene packaging for B2B customers, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The company was founded in 1976 in Padua and, over time, built its position in the flexible packaging market by offering solutions tailored to customer needs. The anniversary was marked with an event attended by customers, suppliers, employees, and representatives of local institutions, held at Villa Selvatico in Battaglia Terme. Following the opening speech by Plastotecnica CEO Luca Iazzolino, Paola Carron, President of Confindustria Veneto Est, and Elisa Venturini, Regional Councillor for the Environment of the Veneto Region, also took the floor. Leopoldo Destro, Vice President of Confindustria, was also present at the event. On this occasion, the company also shared its current financial results, production scale, and development directions related to product quality, offer customization, and the use of post-consumer recycled material.

Plastotecnica manufactures high-quality, recyclable flexible packaging at two plants, in Pernumia and Bagnoli di Sopra, as well as in cooperation with its subsidiary ReFilm, a joint venture in Occhiobello in the province of Rovigo, in which it holds a 51% stake. The company currently employs 334 people, including around 30 temporary workers covered by the same terms and benefits as directly employed staff. The company closed 2025 with revenue of EUR 155 million. Results for the first half of 2026 confirm the growth trend, volume increased by 5% and revenue by 15% year on year, while exports accounted for 32% of sales. Based on these results, the company expects to close 2026 with revenue of around EUR 200 million, accompanied by a significant improvement in profit margins.

From a family business to industrial scale

Plastotecnica's history began in July 1976 thanks to Lorenza Dal Prà and her husband Mario Iazzolino. They started producing plastic bags for retail outlets and neighborhood stores in a garage in Padua. The family business, initially operating under the name Plastotecnica di Dal Prà Lorenza, gradually expanded, leading to a move from the garage to its first rented warehouses and then, in 1981, to a new plant in Pernumia. In 1984, the owners decided to change the business profile, moving away from the production of bags for retail and toward supplying packaging for industry, particularly for major mineral water brands. As highlighted in the source material, this step proved to be a turning point that enabled the company to grow dynamically and reach the position of Italian leader in the flexible packaging segment.

Plant development and the ReFilm project

After reaching full production capacity at the Pernumia plant in a relatively short time, the company launched a new facility in Bagnoli di Sopra in 1992. This is where significant industrial expansion took place and where the company's headquarters has also been located since 2000. Another stage of development came in 2024, when ReFilm was established in the Rovigo area together with partners. ReFilm produces certified plastic from post-consumer recycled used packaging, intended for the manufacture of high-quality products.

Luca Iazzolino, CEO of Plastotecnica and since 2025 President of Confindustria's Rubber and Plastics Federation, said: "Reaching this 50-year milestone is a testament to the initiative and foresight of my parents, who were able to anticipate the needs of a rapidly expanding market. The success of our company has been made possible by the passion and motivation of our employees and partners, the support of our customers, and the trust of our suppliers and financial institutions. To all of them, we extend our heartfelt thanks."

Referring to market conditions, Luca Iazzolino added: "To compete with exporting countries such as China, Turkey, and Egypt, we have decided to focus on high-quality products and a tailor-made approach, sharing our research and development with our customers to create solutions tailored to their needs. To further reduce our environmental impact and meet EU sustainability targets, we have consistently worked to reduce the weight of our packaging and increase the share of post-consumer recycled plastic in our products. These past difficult years have also prompted us to completely revamp our management team, whose average age is about 40 and which is performing very well. We have done this without relying on external resources, by developing our own talent. Furthermore, in view of the growing importance of environmental issues and in line with new European regulations in this area, the establishment in 2024 of our subsidiary ReFilm in cooperation with an industrial partner allows us to look to the future from a new perspective."

Perspective of the business environment

Paola Carron, President of Confindustria Veneto Est, also commented on the anniversary and the company's situation. As she stated: "In a complex geopolitical and economic context that directly affects companies and their growth prospects, Plastotecnica's experience is concrete proof of how strong and vibrant our entrepreneurial fabric is, thanks to high-quality products, continuous innovation, and investments in the circular economy. It is a solid company, deeply rooted in the local community and open to international markets, with significant growth prospects also in 2026, which demonstrates strategic vision and a willingness to invest in research and people as drivers of development."

She also added: "I extend my congratulations to CEO Luca Iazzolino, who over the years has consistently and with great commitment worked to represent the association, to his family, and to all those who have contributed to these first fifty years, with the conviction and certainty that Plastotecnica's history will be long and full of success."

Elisa Venturini, Regional Councillor for the Environment of the Veneto Region, in turn assessed that "Plastotecnica's 50th anniversary marks a milestone of excellence that underlines the vitality and central role of the plastics industry in our region's manufacturing sector. The strategic value of this sector should be recognized, as it not only generates innovation and jobs, but is also decisively addressing the challenge of the ecological transition. Proper supply chain management, through the recovery and reuse of materials, is the key to transforming what was once considered waste into a valuable resource. In this sense, Plastotecnica's commitment to promoting the circular economy and its investment in companies such as ReFilm show how prudent and forward-looking raw material management can combine industrial competitiveness with environmental protection, making the Veneto Region a leader in the green economy."
