Sidel opens Lagos office for the West African market

Sidel opens Lagos office for…

Sidel officially opened a new office in the Phoenix complex in Ikeja, Lagos. The facility will serve as a regional hub for project management, engineering, after-sales service and customer relations, bringing the company closer to customers in Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and neighboring markets. As it expands its offering for the beverage, food, home and personal care sectors, the company emphasizes a focus on operational efficiency and solutions that support sustainability objectives in PET, glass and aluminum packaging.

– West Africa is the most dynamic and promising consumer market in Africa. Building a sizable organization in Lagos allows us to better understand customer needs, respond faster, and offer solutions tailored to West African consumer requirements for PET, can and glass packaging – said Clive Smith, Executive Vice President for Africa, Oceania and Asia at Sidel.

– We are investing in proximity and long-term development in Nigeria and West Africa. Our continued expansion reflects Sidel’s belief that sustainable industrial development stems from collaboration with local partners, local talent and continuous innovation across all packaging materials, PET, cans and glass – commented Pietro Cassani, President and CEO of Sidel.

The Lagos office is Sidel’s third site on the African continent, alongside its office in South Africa and its hub in Nairobi in East Africa. These resources reflect the company’s long-term commitment to maintaining close customer relationships, developing capabilities and supporting sustainable growth in the region.

Strengthening regional growth

Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy and has over 230 million inhabitants, making it the continent’s largest consumer market. In 2024, the value of Nigeria’s food and beverage market reached USD 54.1 billion and, according to forecasts, is expected to grow at around 6% CAGR through 2033. Across West Africa, trends point to healthier beverages, premium products and packaging solutions aligned with sustainability principles. This translates into demand for diverse formats, from lightweight PET bottles to recyclable glass and aluminum cans.

Sidel technologies, including EvoBLOW, EvoFILL Glass and Super Combi, are designed to enable customers to increase operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption and material losses.

Proven partnerships in Africa

In Nigeria, Sidel worked with StrongPack to commission one of the fastest PET bottled water lines in Africa and multiple additional lines, including lines with Actis coating technology for lightweight bottles with extended shelf life. In Ghana, the company equipped Twellium Industrial’s Kumasi plant with two high-speed PET filling lines and an advanced labelling system enabling product traceability. The company also installed Africa’s first Sidel Matrix system for Coca-Cola SABCO in South Africa.

Local collaboration and innovation

The new Lagos office will build local engineering and service expertise to improve customer support and help create jobs. Following the opening ceremony, Sidel held a customer seminar on innovation, titled Driving innovation in packaging and sustainability for the future, attended by key partners from Nigeria and Ghana.
