Plastic is Fantastic strengthens its presence in Asia and will appear at Chinaplas 2026

Plastic is Fantastic strengthens…

The Plastic is Fantastic Association (PiFA) is expanding its activities in Asia, strengthening its position as an international platform for fact-based dialogue on plastics. The organisation intends to develop structures in one of the world's key industrial regions, characterised by a high pace of material innovation, the development of recycling infrastructure and solutions for the circular economy. An important element of this strategy is the appointment of Sandy Lin as Cluster Director responsible for the development of the Asian region, as well as the announced participation of PiFA in the Chinaplas 2026 trade fair in Shanghai.

By building a permanent structural presence in Asia, the association aims to strengthen its network along the global centres of the plastics industry. The expansion of geographical reach is part of a concept of conducting cross-regional, substantive discussion on the role and future of plastics, with particular emphasis on aspects of recycling, innovative materials and transparent communication with stakeholders. Asia, as one of the largest producers and users of plastics, is a key area for this type of activity.

New structure in Asia and the role of Sandy Lin

Sandy Lin takes up the position of Cluster Director Asia and will be responsible for the strategic development of the Asian region within the Plastic is Fantastic Association. In her daily work she holds the position of Director of Global Business Development at Da Fon Environmental Technology, one of the largest recycling companies in Taiwan and at the same time one of the leading producers of rHDPE and rPP in Asia. Her activities focus on building strategic partnerships, supporting the integration of high-quality recyclates into industrial applications and combining industry expertise with modern communication tools.

Commenting on her involvement in PiFA structures, Sandy Lin emphasises the importance of the region: "The presence of Plastic is Fantastic in Asia is particularly important at this moment. Asia is one of the largest producers and users of plastics and one of the most dynamic regions in terms of material innovation, recycling infrastructure and circular manufacturing."

Development of a global structure: Asia and North America

The expansion in Asia is part of the broader global strategy of the Plastic is Fantastic Association. In North America, the cluster structure is already being developed under the leadership of Tania Ferlin, Director of Sustainability Advocacy at Husky Technologies in Bolton, Ontario, Canada. Thanks to its active presence in both regions, PiFA is strengthening its network along key global centres of the plastics industry.

Dominic Fiel, Executive Director of PiFA, underlines the factual basis of the association's activities: "Our goal is to place the global debate on plastics on a universally valid, scientific foundation. Innovation emerges from facts, technology and collaboration, not from myths." In this context, the development of structures in different regions of the world is intended to support better information flows, the exchange of experience and a more balanced discussion on plastics and their role in the economy.

PiFA participation in Chinaplas 2026

Within the new structure of its presence in Asia, the Plastic is Fantastic Association will present itself for the first time at the Chinaplas 2026 trade fair in Shanghai. The association will be present at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), in the Austrian Pavilion in Hall 2.1, booth 2.1C54, from 21 to 24 April 2026. Discussions and exchange of experience with visitors are planned at the booth, accompanied by the Captain Plasto mascot.

Chinaplas is regarded as one of the leading global trade fairs for the plastics and rubber industry. The thirty-eighth edition of the event will bring together more than 4,600 exhibitors on a floor space of around 390,000 m², making it one of the most important international industry platforms. The trade fair agenda gives significant prominence to issues related to the circular economy, smart manufacturing and innovative materials, which are in line with the thematic areas in which PiFA conducts information activities and dialogue with the industry.

Asia as a strategic region for dialogue on plastics

Strengthening PiFA's presence in Asia is of strategic importance. The development of the organisation's structures in this region creates space for deeper cooperation, increased transparency and knowledge sharing. At the same time, it makes it possible to conduct a fact-based dialogue on the future of plastics in one of the world's largest markets.

The association points out that further development of the plastics system can only succeed through cooperation across the entire value chain. The presence in North America and Asia enables PiFA to build its position as an international platform for reliable information, technological innovation and constructive exchange of views on plastics. Such initiatives are intended to support industry in the search for solutions that combine economic, environmental and social requirements.
