Nylon Corporation of America, Inc. (NYCOA) has started up a third reactor for the production of specialty nylons at its headquarters site in Manchester, New Hampshire. The new batch polymerization line is expected to double the company's capacity for long-chain nylons and copolymers. The investment complements recent expansions in continuous nylon 6 production in Manchester and forms part of a multi-phase plan to build specialty nylon capability.
According to the company, the added capacity will support a dedicated supply of long-chain nylon materials to customers across transportation, industrial and sporting goods applications. NYCOA has supplied nylon 6 and 6-based copolymers and compounds for wire and cable and filament extrusion since 1957 and is now scaling batch reactor output to address specialty demand.
"This new production capability in specialty nylons expands our portfolio and enables us to meet a range of opportunities in the domestic market," said Monica Kumar, President of NYCOA. "These new assets will ensure a dedicated supply to our customers."
The third reactor is one element of a capacity growth program that also includes a fourth reactor in Manchester. NYCOA reports that the fourth unit is 75 percent complete and is expected to start up in late 2026.
Specialty nylon platforms
In parallel with the capacity increase, NYCOA plans to broaden its specialty nylon portfolio with the following product platforms:
- NXTamid T nylon 6,12 and 6,10 grades.
- NY-Clear amorphous 6i/6t nylon for food packaging and automotive.
- NXTamid L, which meets or exceeds the performance of nylon 12 and nylon 11 in many applications and offers a broad range of customization options.
- NY-Flex, a polyether block amide copolymer with key uses in footwear, medical and sports equipment.
