Coveris to showcase PFAS-free packaging at Interzoo 2026

Coveris to showcase PFAS-free…

Coveris announces the presentation of a series of innovative mono-material pet food packaging solutions free from PFAS substances at Interzoo 2026. The event is described as the world’s largest pet industry trade fair and will take place in Nuremberg, Germany. The company plans to show solutions intended for snacks and treats as well as for dry and wet pet food. According to the announcement, the new designs aim to combine requirements for product protection, reduced environmental impact and maintained operational efficiency across packaging and distribution chains.

The announcement notes that growing regulatory pressure, including the upcoming entry into force of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), is influencing expectations for packaging in this market segment. In this context, Coveris highlights the development of mono-material and recyclable designs that are intended to support circular economy objectives and reduce environmental impact across the value chain.

PFAS-free design in the context of regulatory changes

The announcement draws attention to PFAS substances, referred to as “forever chemicals”, due to their persistence in the environment and tightening legal requirements. It states that from 12 August 2026 strict EU limits on PFAS content in food-contact packaging are to apply. As a result, PFAS-free design is expected to become one of the key requirements for maintaining compliance and continued market access. According to the company, all solutions presented at Interzoo 2026 have been developed to be free from PFAS, to support customers in preparing for the upcoming requirements and to facilitate the transition to compliance.

New solutions within the MonoFlex family

Among the announced new products is the MonoFlexE Opti weight pouch, developed to reduce material use without compromising functional performance. According to Coveris, it is a lightweight solution intended to support cost optimisation, including reducing packaging-related taxes. At the same time, the packaging is said to be fully recyclable and PFAS-free. The company also points to stability across the supply chain and parameters relevant to retail shelf presentation.

The second solution to be presented is MonoFlexBE metallised film. It is described as a fully recyclable PE-based mono-material solution featuring a high-barrier metallised inner layer. The material is intended for applications requiring protection against oxygen and moisture, which may enable shelf-life extension while maintaining quality, appearance and tactile feel. The announcement indicates that these characteristics are relevant, among others, for premium pet food packaging.

The portfolio is to be complemented by MonoFlexE Lite, a PE mono-material solution tailored to selected applications. According to the manufacturer, this variant combines transparency with functional reliability and is available both in barrier and non-barrier versions, as well as with different sealing formats. The role of print quality in improving the readability of on-pack messages is also highlighted, along with optional features such as anti-fog protection. Compatibility with Freshlife technology is also indicated, which is intended to support freshness retention and shelf-life extension.
