Wittmann Group announces the presentation of three live production cells at Fakuma 2026, which will take place from 12 to 16 October in Friedrichshafen. The company is focusing its display on all-electric injection molding machines and automated processes, emphasizing the potential to reduce consumption of energy, material, time and production floor space. The stand in hall B1 will feature solutions covering high-volume production of medical parts, micro injection molding for microfluidic applications, and liquid silicone processing. Each application is intended to illustrate different aspects of efficiency, from compact cell layout and autonomous packaging to highly precise replication of very fine structures and energy-efficient production of LSR parts.

One of the main exhibits will be the new all-electric EcoPrimus injection molding machine, designed for efficient high-volume production. During the show, the machine will produce protective caps for insulin pens in an 8-cavity mold supplied by Kistler. The system will be equipped with assistance solutions and a FlexCell plus automation cell to enable fully automatic production with a small footprint. According to the manufacturer, the Primus designation refers to a focus on key functions, with the highest possible material, energy and cost efficiency, without compromising output, quality standards or spare parts availability.

The EcoPrimus model with a clamping force of 1000 kN was developed for compact single-component injection molding with a limited range of options. The machine reaches injection speeds of up to 200 mm/s and operates with Wittmann’s latest B8X control system. The all-electric design is based on the manufacturer’s experience with the EcoPower series. Both series are intended to deliver high precision, repeatability and energy efficiency, as well as full compatibility with the Wittmann 4.0 concept.

The EcoPrimus configuration shown at the fair will be equipped with the HiQ Packing digital assistance system for autonomous process optimization. The software enables highly precise control of screw movement at the switchover point and during the holding pressure phase. This is intended to ensure balanced pressure distribution and uniform cavity filling, including areas near the mold parting line, which is particularly important for multi-cavity molds.

The application will be complemented by the FlexCell plus automation cell. The FlexCell series is based on a standardized modular design that combines flexibility with cost efficiency. Within a compact space, it is possible to integrate a Wittmann linear robot, a conveyor belt and additional automation components selected for the specific task. Since the cells are directly connected to the injection molding machine and allow production with the machine guard door open, the automation system can be positioned very close to the mold. This reduces handling times and lowers investment costs, because a shorter robot Z axis is sufficient.

In the plus version to be shown at Fakuma, the FlexCell will be equipped with a fully automated box transfer system designed for direct packaging of molded parts into crates, KLT containers or cardboard boxes. The aim of this configuration is to enable autonomous production for several hours. Parts removed from the mold by the robot can be deposited either randomly or according to a predefined stacking pattern. A characteristic feature of the solution is the integration of the box transfer system with the protective housing into one fixed unit, which can easily be moved aside as a whole to provide access to the mold space. The manufacturer also emphasizes that FlexCell cells are compatible with injection molding machines of all brands and can also be retrofitted to existing production installations.

Micro injection molding for lab-on-a-chip parts

The second presentation will be an application using the MicroPower injection molding machine, designed for molding micro and nano parts with shot weights from 0.05 to 4 g. The reference point for this display is lab-on-a-chip technology, in which complete laboratory processes can be integrated on a device with an area of only a few square centimeters. From the perspective of injection molding technology, microfluidic structures are particularly important here, with samples and diagnostic fluids flowing through channels with diameters of only a few micrometers.

At Fakuma 2026, Wittmann will present the production of transparent polypropylene samples in which the channels have diameters not exceeding 0.04 mm and corner radii down to 0.005 mm. During the five days of the trade fair, the MicroPower 15/10 machine will operate with 3D-printed 2-cavity mold inserts from NanoVoxel, installed in a basic mold box supplied by Ernst Wittner. According to the manufacturer, the machine enables precise replication of extremely fine structures down to the nanometer range.

A special feature of the MicroPower is its very compact design. On a floor space of only 2 m², the system integrates a rotary table, auxiliary equipment, automation, temperature control, quality inspection and additional process units. In applications with high cleanliness requirements, the cell can be easily enclosed with a laminar flow box.

The machine design is also intended to support material-saving operation, because the injection plunger reaches right up to the mold parting line. As a result, the melt cushion is reduced to a minimum and the sprue restriction is significantly reduced or eliminated altogether. An additional effect is intended to be higher quality consistency, because pressure transmission takes place over a very short flow path. The manufacturer also notes that the MicroPower does not require special micro granulates and can process standard granulates.

The third application will concern liquid silicone processing. Together with Nexus Elastomer Systems, Wittmann will present at the partner’s stand in hall A6, stand 6222, a demonstration of the production of silicone lids for beverage cans, bottles and cups. This configuration will use an all-electric EcoPower 110/350 B8X injection molding machine in the LSR version, equipped with a 4-cavity mold and a Wittmann W918 linear robot. Material feeding will be handled by a ServoMix X200 dosing system integrated into the cell.

According to the manufacturer, the EcoPower series is used wherever precision, efficiency and process cleanliness are critical. Machines in this series are intended to offer high injection speeds, very precise control and high operating dynamics. Direct servo drives and the use of braking energy are intended to reduce energy consumption. The modular design is in turn intended to facilitate adaptation of the configuration to different production requirements. In the case of the LSR application, this combination of features is meant to support precise and material-efficient processing. The manufacturer describes the ServoMix X200 as a flexible LSR dosing system combining high output with precision and economical material consumption.
