Südpack has consolidated its high-performance tubular pouch films from the premium Pure-Line range into a dedicated product family marketed as CarbonLite. Based on PP and PE mono-materials, the films are designed for use on both horizontal and vertical flow pack equipment to produce flowpacks, doypacks with or without spouts, and block-bottom pouches. According to the company, recyclability and optimized material efficiency contribute to a significantly smaller carbon footprint compared to conventional multi-material laminates or heavier tray solutions, with economic benefits that include lower disposal costs. The latest top webs are intended for MAP applications and have been engineered to reduce material use without compromising performance. A CarbonLite PurePP flowpack can use up to 60% less material than a conventional tray, and the packaging concept achieves recyclability rates of up to 92%, with verification by external institutes. For horizontal PE-based flow pack applications, Südpack reports an additional 10% reduction in film thickness while maintaining barrier performance. The company adds that co-extrusion expertise, service support and an in-house application center can help shorten time-to-market for manufacturers and packers.
The films are specified with barrier properties tailored to the packed product, for example protection against oxygen and water vapor to support long shelf life. An anti-fog option is available to improve product visibility. Processability on standard packaging machines is a stated focus, including at high cycle rates. Consistent sealing strength is attributed to high thermal resistance, including when integrating closures such as zippers, spouts or valves produced from the same mono-material system.
Applications and processing
Typical use cases cited for CarbonLite films include:
- lightweight PE flowpacks for cuts of cheese, baguettes, mozzarella and coffee,
- PP flowpacks for ground meat and convenience products,
- stand-up PE doypacks for grated cheese and salami sticks,
- PP doypacks for confectionery, dried fruit, nuts and other snacks.
For coffee, the films can be processed into stable PP or PE block-bottom pouches. PP spouted pouches are also possible for fruit purées. The films are intended for efficient conversion on horizontal and vertical flow pack machines.

Additional sustainability measures
Beyond material selection and end-of-life considerations, Südpack addresses printing impacts with its SPQ printing technology, which is designed to reduce ink and solvent consumption while improving color brilliance. The film manufacturer has committed to the SBTi and was one of only a few companies to achieve Platinum status in the EcoVadis ranking in 2025. The company also offers an advanced LCA service to assess the environmental balance of different packaging concepts, covering both its own developments and customer solutions.
