At Pharmapack 2026, Sanner will present its newly developed tethered cap closure as an addition to its sustainable packaging portfolio for effervescent tablets. Combined with the Sanner BioBase solution, the new closure is designed to support recyclability requirements and respond to growing expectations from brand owners and consumers regarding the environmental performance of healthcare packaging. In parallel, the company will use the trade fair to outline how acquisitions and new manufacturing sites over the past two years have significantly expanded its global production footprint and its capabilities as a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for pharmaceutical packaging and medical devices.
Tethered cap for effervescent tablet packaging
Manufacturers of effervescent supplement tablets face increasing demands to improve the sustainability of both products and packaging, with recyclability and reduction of plastic leakage gaining importance. Sanner's new tethered cap targets these requirements by keeping the tamper-evident safety ring attached to the cap after opening. As a result, all plastic components remain connected and can enter the recycling stream together, which is intended to lower the risk of microplastic release into the environment.
According to Stefan Verheyden, CEO of the Sanner Group, supporting circularity is a central element of the company strategy. He notes that sustainable practices apply both to Sanner products and to internal operations, and points to the recent achievement of EcoVadis Gold status as an external confirmation that sustainability processes are embedded in corporate management.
In addition to recyclability aspects, the tethered cap is designed for straightforward integration into existing filling and packaging lines for effervescent tablets. The solution can be implemented without changeovers or process interruptions, allowing manufacturers to adopt the new closure concept with minimal impact on established production workflows.
At Pharmapack 2026, Sanner will also present its range of desiccant-based packaging solutions for moisture- and odor-sensitive pharmaceutical products and dietary supplements. This includes the improved TabTec CR concept as well as other options for moisture control in drug delivery devices and diagnostic products, aimed at protecting formulation stability and product performance over shelf life.

Expanded global CDMO offering
Beyond primary packaging, Sanner is positioning itself as a fully integrated CDMO partner for pharmaceutical and MedTech companies. Following the acquisitions of design and development specialists Gilero and Springboard, the group now offers single-source support covering device design and development, design transfer and large-scale production. These services are provided across Sanner locations in Europe, North America and Asia.
The offering targets manufacturers of drug delivery systems, combination products, medical devices and diagnostics that require a partner combining packaging expertise with device engineering and industrialization capabilities. Christian Classen, CSO of the Sanner Group, states that the company has continuously expanded both its global presence in device development and its production capacities over the past two years.
According to Classen, providing the full process from early design through verification and validation to commercial manufacturing from one source enables consistent application of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles from the outset of development. With support from in-house human factors specialists, usability aspects can be addressed in parallel. This integrated setup is described as facilitating a seamless transition from development to industrialization while reducing project complexity, development timelines and associated risks.
