Biesterfeld Group has announced the appointment of Jonas Borgsten as Global Business Director for the Engineered Polymers business unit. The change will take effect on March 1, 2026 and covers responsibility for the global development of activities in the field of engineered polymers. Jonas Borgsten, who joined Biesterfeld in 2024, will succeed Martin Rathke, who is leaving the company after more than 18 years.

The new Global Business Director holds degrees in business administration (MBA) and polymer science. He combines a business background with technical knowledge of the plastics market, which is relevant for the further development of the global Engineered Polymers unit. The decision to change the head of the business unit is part of the implementation of the Biesterfeld Group's strategy, in which the engineered polymers segment has been defined as one of the key growth areas.

In his professional career to date, Jonas Borgsten has gained experience in international chemical and plastics companies, including Dow Chemical and DuPont. This has covered sales, management of commercial structures and responsibility for global financial performance at P&L level. He has been with Biesterfeld since 2024, when he joined the organization to develop activities in the Northern Europe and British Isles regions.

Scope of responsibilities and experience of Jonas Borgsten

Before his appointment as Global Business Director Engineered Polymers, Jonas Borgsten held the position of Regional Director North. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic development of Biesterfeld's polymer business in the markets of the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Nordic countries. His tasks include coordinating sales and portfolio development activities in these countries, as well as cooperation with key suppliers and customers in the plastics segment.

By taking on the new function, Jonas Borgsten will combine his existing regional responsibilities with the role of global director of the Engineered Polymers business unit. This means an extended scope of tasks that includes shaping the global business strategy of this unit, supervising its development in individual markets and further strengthening Biesterfeld Group's position in the field of engineered polymers.

Importance of the Engineered Polymers unit for Biesterfeld's strategy

Commenting on the appointment, Stephan Glander, CEO of Biesterfeld SE, highlighted the importance of the engineered polymers segment for the entire group.

Jonas Borgsten combines deep market expertise, strong commercial leadership, and a strategic yet hands-on approach, which he has already demonstrated successfully within our organization. In his statement, the CEO emphasized the combination of market knowledge, experience in managing sales teams and operational capabilities that Jonas Borgsten has already demonstrated within Biesterfeld. The appointment is intended to further strengthen and develop the Engineered Polymers unit as one of the main pillars of the group's global strategy.

At the same time, the contribution of Martin Rathke to building and developing Biesterfeld's activities in the engineered polymers area over more than 18 years with the company was underlined. The change in the position of Global Business Director means transferring responsibility for the further shaping of this part of the business to new management while maintaining strategic continuity.
