Elix Polymers introduces low-gloss PC/ABS for auto interiors

Elix Polymers introduces low-gloss…

Elix Polymers has introduced PC/ABS GR 5120, a new engineering thermoplastic developed in response to rising demand for interior materials that combine aesthetics, performance and sustainability. The grade delivers a matte, low-gloss surface that reduces reflectivity compared with conventional PC/ABS grades on the market, while preserving the mechanical and thermal profile expected for in-cabin components. The visual effect is intended to support a refined appearance in modern vehicle interiors without trade-offs in functional properties.

According to the company, the material pairs excellent impact resistance with dimensional stability and robust thermal behavior. It is characterized by high weatherability, low emissions and low odor, attributes that are relevant for interior air quality and long-term durability in automotive use. These features align with industry expectations for interior parts where consistent appearance over time and controlled volatile emissions are required.

Target applications include instrument panels, center consoles, decorative trims, door panels and ventilation grilles. These components can benefit from the combination of a matte finish with reliable processing and in-service performance. "This development responds to market needs for materials that combine visual appeal with technical reliability. Our new matte PC/ABS allows designers and manufacturers to achieve high-quality finishes without sacrificing performance," says Ignacio Buezas Sierra, Business Development Manager at Elix Polymers.
