Dr. Otto Röhm inducted into…

Röhm GmbH founder and namesake Dr. Otto Röhm has been posthumously inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame. The ceremonial induction into the "Class of 2025" took place in Düsseldorf on the eve of K 2025, in front of an international audience. Segment Head Thomas Brettnich of Röhm accepted the distinction on behalf of the company, marking a recognition of Röhm’s contribution to the global plastics sector.

"Otto Röhm’s genius lay not only in the chemistry itself, but in recognizing how science could be transformed into real, practical innovation, and how to get people on board for his ideas and his company," said Segment Head Thomas Brettnich of Röhm, who accepted the award on behalf of the company.

The Plastics Hall of Fame honors individuals who have shaped the international plastics industry through outstanding achievements and whose innovations continue to have a lasting impact. Admission is decided by existing members through a voting process. At the award ceremony, 250 guests marked the induction of 18 pioneers from the chemical industry.

PMMA as the foundation of Röhm’s legacy

Otto Röhm and his research team achieved their breakthrough in the 1930s with the development of polymethyl methacrylate, later marketed by Röhm under the Plexiglas brand. The crystal-clear plastic represented a major milestone in the history of chemistry. According to the company, PMMA combines multiple properties and offers a variety of solutions for specialized applications. Today it is used across architecture, the automotive industry, industrial design and medical technology, among other fields.
