Coveris to present recyclable pet food packaging at Pats UK 2025

Coveris to present recyclable…

Coveris has announced its participation at Pats UK 2025, which will take place from 28 to 30 September at the Nec Birmingham. The company will exhibit on stand E48 and focus on packaging for dry, wet and snack pet food applications. The portfolio on show will include recyclable premade bags, stand-up pouches, form-fill-seal films and paper bags. These solutions are designed and produced across a network of dedicated pet food sites in Europe and combine functionality, shelf appeal and a focus on sustainability. A central element of the presentation will be Monoflex, a range of recyclable monomaterial films offered in standard and high-barrier variants to support full circularity and alignment with 2030 packaging legislation. Available features include matt or glossy finishes, windows, laser scoring and reclosable systems such as zips and sliders, enabling convenience and brand differentiation. New product highlights announced for the event comprise a high-barrier monomaterial with a metallic inner layer, a lightweight PE structure for quadroseal premade bags in the 1.5 to 4 kg segment and PFAS-free premade bag solutions aimed at supporting upcoming regulatory requirements.

According to the company, the pet food range is engineered to perform on current filling lines and supply chains while addressing recyclability, barrier needs and the removal of PFAS from relevant specifications. The updates are presented as part of broader efforts to increase the share of recyclable, monomaterial packaging in the UK pet food market ahead of regulatory milestones.

New product highlights

  • MonoflexBE with metallic inner layer: a recyclable high-barrier monomaterial that combines product protection with a premium metallic finish to enhance shelf impact and differentiation, without compromising recyclability.
  • MonoflexLiteE: a lightweight, fully recyclable PE film for quadroseal premade bags (1.5 - 4kg), offering a glossy appearance and optional front zip. It is designed to deliver comparable performance with 35% lower CO2 emissions than standard structures.
  • PFAS-free solutions: the company already supplies PFAS-free premade bag solutions for pet food and is expanding PFAS-free options across its broader portfolio, aligning with upcoming regulations and demand for cleaner packaging.

Regulatory context and performance

Coveris positions its offer around recyclability, barrier performance and PFAS-free compliance, alongside operational fit on modern packing lines. Commenting on market dynamics and the shift toward monomaterials, Vincent Larson, Key Account Manager Pet Food UK, said: "As regulatory pressure increases and consumers demand more sustainable choices, brands need packaging that does more than merely comply - it must perform, protect and communicate. At Coveris, we’re helping pet food brands prepare for the future now. All our solutions are developed with recyclability, barrier performance, and PFAS-free compliance in mind, while also meeting the evolving operational demands of today’s filling lines and supply chains. In the UK, the share of our MonoFlexE monomaterial solutions has grown from 30% in 2021 to 66% in 2024. This strong momentum is only the beginning, with several exciting projects currently underway to further accelerate the shift towards recyclable, high-performance packaging."
