Clariant expands stabilizer production and applications for plastics industry

Clariant expands stabilizer…

Clariant has announced a significant expansion of its plastics stabilizer portfolio, combining increased production capacity in China with the introduction of innovative solutions for demanding applications in artificial turf and the medical sector. This development responds to the rapidly growing need for advanced stabilizers in Asia and worldwide, particularly as the Chinese nylon industry continues its rapid growth.

The company’s joint venture with Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd. has completed the chemical commissioning of a second S-EED production line at its Cangzhou facility. The new line will focus on manufacturing Nylostab S-EED, a multifunctional stabilizer designed to meet the requirements of both textile and engineering plastics industries. The expansion is expected to enhance Clariant’s ability to serve customers in China and the broader Asian market more efficiently.

Meeting the needs of artificial turf and medical plastics

Nylostab S-EED has recently gained traction in artificial turf applications, particularly for sports fields. The stabilizer offers robust protection against light, heat, and oxidation, which are critical factors affecting the durability and appearance of nylon-based artificial turf systems. By improving resistance to UV exposure and frequent cleaning, Nylostab S-EED helps extend the lifespan and color retention of polyamide turf installations, making them more resilient under intensive use and harsh weather conditions.

According to Clariant, artificial turf manufacturers are increasingly seeking solutions that maintain both performance and aesthetics in challenging environments. Nylostab S-EED, developed using molecular recognition methods, demonstrates excellent solubility in nylon and strong affinity with polyamide chains. This results in enhanced durability and resilience, addressing key industry challenges.

In addition to its advancements in nylon stabilization, Clariant has introduced AddWorks LXR 548, a phenol-free antioxidative solution tailored for polyolefin plastics. This stabilizer is designed to reduce yellowing in polyolefin parts, ensuring color stability even after exposure to gamma radiation and thermal treatment. Its formulation addresses the need to eliminate phenolic antioxidants from sensitive applications, such as medical devices and hygiene products, where regulatory requirements are stringent and product appearance is critical.

AddWorks LXR 548 provides high compatibility and solubility across various polymer systems, with low extractability and a favorable toxicological profile. These features make it suitable for use in syringes, bottles, non-woven materials, and other polyolefin plastic parts that require both performance and compliance with strict safety standards. As demand for medical-grade plastics continues to rise, this innovation positions Clariant to capture a larger share of this high-value market segment.

Strategic focus on innovation and sustainability

Through these strategic investments and product developments, Clariant is reinforcing its role as a supplier of specialty chemicals that enhance the performance and sustainability of plastics. The company’s ongoing focus is on delivering solutions that address specific customer challenges, while contributing to the production of more durable and resource-efficient end products. These efforts support the broader plastics industry’s move toward higher quality, compliance, and sustainability in both established and emerging markets.
