The compounding industry is currently facing a broad range of requirements. In addition to large-scale production, demand is growing for small batches, development samples and customised special solutions. In response, PolyComp GmbH from Norderstedt near Hamburg has made a targeted investment in a modern laboratory-scale extruder supplied by Feddem GmbH & Co. KG. The unit is the Fed 26 Mts model, intended to complement the company’s existing capabilities with an efficient system aimed at start-ups, R&D departments and customers requiring small quantities.
According to PolyComp, the new system is intended to enable flexible production of short runs, including samples, test batches and formulation modifications, while maintaining repeatability and process control. The company also points to the ability to transfer recipes developed on this line to production scale, which is expected to facilitate later implementation at higher volumes.
"Thanks to this advanced technology, we can produce small quantities flexibly, precisely and economically for our customers. Whether samples, test batches or specific customisations, high-quality compounds can be provided individually according to specifications, quickly and reliably," said Michael Kurtzke, Head of Sales at PolyComp.
Technical specifications of the line (PA 19)
- Throughput: 30–70 kg/h
- Speed range: up to 1200 rpm
- Process length: standard 42 L/D
- Integrated strand pelletising and screw conveyor
- Intuitive touchscreen control
As the company reports, a particular advantage of the installation is scalability. Recipes developed on the extruder are expected to be efficiently transferred to production conditions, providing customers with greater confidence that developments can be realised at industrial scale from the beginning of a project.
The extruder is intended for a wide range of applications, from standard compounds to more demanding special formulations, including individual additive combinations or the use of special fillers.
