Kisuma introduces magnesium additives for recycled plastics

Kisuma introduces magnesium…

Kisuma Chemicals has expanded its portfolio of magnesium-based additives for recycled plastics, addressing performance and consistency challenges faced by compounders and converters. The company offers stand-alone solutions and synergistic additive blends engineered to support odor scavenging and reduction, retention of melt flow index, retention of color and yellowing index, and reduction of gels. The portfolio is designed to help maintain stable processing and product properties when working with variable recyclate feedstocks and to enable more consistent, high-quality outcomes. Kisuma reports close collaboration with customers on next-generation, tailormade options aimed at boosting performance, efficiency and sustainability or retaining virgin-like characteristics. The program is aligned with European Union initiatives to increase recycled content in key sectors including packaging, automotive and building and construction. In addition, the company links these developments to its carbon neutrality goals and highlights the non-toxic HSE profile of the products, positioning the additives for customers seeking to minimize product carbon footprint and avoid substances at risk of future regulatory restrictions.

“As part of a major initiative to expand our portfolio, we are working closely with our customers to help them unlock the full potential of recycled plastics,” says Zachary Hoffman, Business Development Lead Europe, Middle East & Africa for Kisuma. “Beyond a diversified suite of magnesium-based additives already available for this market, we are actively developing the next generation of these unique products, including tailormade solutions with functionalities engineered to boost the performance, efficiency and sustainability of recycled plastics or retain virgin-like properties. By enhancing color, reducing odor, improving melt flow and minimizing gels, we can achieve consistent, high-quality outcomes together and accelerate the shift towards a more sustainable plastics value chain.”

Target applications and performance levers

The additives and synergistic blends are intended for compounders and converters working with recycled plastics, with a focus on stabilizing quality and processing behavior. Key functional benefits include:

  • Odor scavenging and reduction
  • Melt flow index retention
  • Color and yellowing index retention
  • Gel reduction

Regulatory context and HSE profile

According to the company, the development roadmap is aligned with European Union directives and initiatives on recycled content, including packaging regulations, automotive end-of-life requirements and building and construction objectives. The products feature a non-toxic HSE profile and are positioned to support customers pursuing lower product carbon footprints and the avoidance of additives that may face tighter regulation in global markets.
