Hubergroup Print Solutions is expanding its UV offset ink portfolio with low-tack versions in its NewV series. The company states that the new variants are a response to changing requirements in print shops, primarily related to greater variability in paper quality and increasing printing speeds. The existing high-tack series, it says, have performed particularly well in the premium segment. The new low-tack versions, in turn, are intended to enable optimal print results also under less stable conditions, especially when substrate parameters fluctuate and when operating at high output.
Low-tack versions are now available for the NewV pack premium, NewV set LED, NewV pack MGA and NewV poly MGA ink series. The manufacturer indicates that the solution was developed for print shops seeking greater process predictability without giving up the application properties known from the standard variants. According to the company, the new inks retain the same rheological properties as the standard series while also offering benefits in applications where paper quality is not fully consistent.
Response to changing print requirements
Hubergroup reports that it has recently observed growing demand for low-tack series. This is said to result both from increased quality differences between paper batches and from higher operating speeds of printing presses. Lisa-Marie Spring, Product Manager SF/UV at hubergroup, explains: "The term tack refers to the stickiness of a printing ink. While high tack offers advantages such as improved ink transfer and dot gain, it can also cause so-called picking on sensitive papers or uncoated board, meaning damage to the substrate surface during the printing process. Low-tack inks have been specifically developed to counteract this effect."
More stable process with fluctuating substrate quality
According to the manufacturer's information, the low-tack versions of the NewV series reduce paper fibre tear-out, ensure more uniform ink splitting, minimise emulsion disruption, and reduce the risk of delamination in multi-layer substrates. This is intended to be particularly relevant when paper quality fluctuates or when printing is carried out at very high speeds.
According to hubergroup, the result of implementing the new low-tack versions should be greater stability of the overall process and consistently high print quality. As Lisa-Marie Spring summarises: "With the new low-tack versions of our NewV series, we provide customers with reliable solutions that support a smooth and efficient printing process in line with today's requirements."
