EREMA doubles laser filter screen area with LF 812 launch

EREMA doubles laser filter…

EREMA will extend its Powerfil melt filtration line at K 2025 with the LF 812 laser filter, a high-performance unit featuring a screen surface twice the size of the LF 406. According to the company, the enlarged filtration area enables higher throughput, or the use of finer screens while maintaining existing throughput, which is relevant for quality-focused applications. The larger area also allows operation at lower differential pressure and with reduced thermal load. “This latest development in our laser filter sees us take a decisive step towards meeting the growing demands for high throughputs in plastics recycling at the same time as achieving the highest quality of melt,” said Markus Huber-Lindinger, Managing Director at EREMA.

The single version of the LF 812 is specified to filter up to 5,000 kilogrammes of melt per hour. “As a leading provider of plastics recycling machines, at EREMA we focus our experience and technical expertise on equipping large-scale systems with high-performance filtration in a compact design,” added Huber-Lindinger. By increasing the screen surface area, the single LF 812 can cover applications that previously required multiple filter units. “The major increase in surface area opens up new scope for system design. In many cases, this results in smaller space requirements and a more compact overall solution,” said Robert Obermayr, Product Group Manager for Powerfil at EREMA.

The new model builds on the company’s throughput roadmap. At K 2022, Erema introduced the LF 406 with a screen area of almost 2,000 square centimetres, a 50 percent increase versus the LF 356. The LF 812 raises the screen area by a further 100 percent. In combination with the Intarema 2021 TVEplus extruder platform, rated up to 3.5 tonnes per hour, the company highlights that the system can be configured to operate with one continuous extruder without a cascade arrangement. The prerequisite for this setup is the LF 812 laser filter, available as a Single version or as a Twin configuration for more demanding duties. EREMA generally offers its laser filters as Single, Twin, Triple and Quattro versions, with the appropriate configuration determined by process-specific requirements.

Integration of Lock & Change in the Endurance filter

EREMA has also integrated its Lock & Change screen-change mechanism into an Endurance filter within the Powerfil portfolio. The Endurance filter provides coarse pre-filtration to protect the downstream laser filter when processing unwashed feedstocks or input streams that are difficult to clean. Lock & Change enables on-the-fly screen replacement without stopping production. When combined with the system’s shut-off function, available starting with the Twin version, the line can continue running while one set of screens is exchanged. This arrangement is designed to increase uptime and support stable process control with challenging material streams.

Adaptive control and focus on operating costs

EREMA reports ongoing development of Powerfil systems to match customer specifications with an emphasis on reducing operating expenditure. In spring 2024, the company introduced the DischargePro intelligent control, which automatically adapts to fluctuations in input material. Field experience to date indicates a significant reduction in material losses because the filter can be operated more consistently. Depending on system configuration and the recycled material, the company cites potential annual savings between EUR 50,000 and 70,000.

Inhouse manufacturing and supply chain security

To support quality and availability, the EREMA Group is expanding inhouse manufacturing of filter components at 3S in Wartberg, a company within the group. Investments in new production and heat treatment technologies increase vertical integration and aim to ensure consistently high component quality. The company positions this move as a measure to enhance supply chain security for customers relying on its recycling systems and components.

Live at K 2025 and campaign context

The LF 812 laser filter and the integrated Lock & Change with the Endurance filter will be shown on the EREMAstand in Hall 9 at K 2025. In parallel, under the current “Edvanced Recycling, EREMA Prime Solutions for Advanced Recycling” campaign, EREMA presents a range of plastics recycling solutions. The company points to more than 40 years of experience and application know-how as the basis for delivering recycled pellets to defined quality specifications, from food and cosmetic grades to less demanding uses. The campaign highlights how EREMA is working with customers to increase the proportion of recycled material used in new plastic products.

Visitors will find EREMA at K 2025: Hall 9, stand C09, and at the Edvanced Recycling Centre: Outdoor area, CE03.
