Wittmann to showcase EcoPrimus and automation at Plastpol 2026

Wittmann to showcase EcoPrimus…

During Plastpol 2026, to be held on 19–22 May in Kielce, Wittmann will focus its presentation on issues related to the efficiency and profitability of the injection moulding process. A complete production cell will be shown at the stand, where a piggy bank will be manufactured. The demonstration is intended to show the importance of properly matching the injection moulding machine, automation and peripheral equipment to the requirements of a specific application. The company announces a presentation of processing using virgin granulate, recycled materials and feedstocks based on naturally derived components. The piggy bank produced during the trade fair is intended to symbolise the savings that can be achieved in injection moulding through the proper configuration of the entire production system.

The central element of the presented cell will be the new EcoPrimus 100/525 B8X all-electric injection moulding machine, shown in Poland for the first time. It is a machine with a clamping force of 1000 kN, developed for standard applications where high performance is expected with a limited range of machine options. According to the manufacturer, this model is intended to combine precision, efficiency and cost-effectiveness, while maintaining a compact and robust design. Like the other current injection moulding machine models of the Wittmann Group, the EcoPrimus is equipped with the Unilog B8X control system.

The piggy bank will consist of two half-shells moulded in a 1+1 layout. A wood-plastic composite, WPC, granulate supplied by the Polish company Compositive will be used for production. The presentation is intended to show that a standard injection moulding machine, complemented by an appropriately selected plasticising unit, can be used for a wide range of materials, from conventional thermoplastics to composites based on natural raw materials. In order to maintain consistent part quality, even with variable raw material properties typical of recyclates and natural materials, the machine will be equipped with intelligent process support systems from the HiQ range. These solutions analyse parameters critical to product quality and automatically introduce process corrections, reducing the risk of scrap and stabilising production even when experienced specialists are not present on every shift.

Robots and the R9 control system

The piggy bank parts will be removed from the mould by a Wittmann W918 linear robot and placed on a conveyor positioned next to the machine. The company also announces a presentation of robots both as an element working together with the injection moulding machine and as a stand-alone automation demonstration cell. According to the manufacturer, the modular design and uniform platform strategy are intended to provide linear robots with configuration flexibility while maintaining cost efficiency.

The R9 robot controller has been designed with simple and intuitive operation in mind. Work programs can be created both freely and by selecting graphically presented sequences. The visualisation of the Teach-Box hand-held programmer can be transferred to a desktop computer. As standard, the R9 control system offers force monitoring during part removal and placement, automatic ACD collision monitoring, and supervision of maintenance intervals. Thanks to the possibility of integrating up to twelve servo axes, this system can handle more complex automation tasks. In addition, the ControlRoom function enables control of all peripheral equipment in integrated work cells. The control system can be expanded with analogue and digital inputs and outputs, as well as additional servo axes. The R9 Teachbox is based on Windows, which is intended to facilitate communication with other platforms.

Equipment for processing recyclates and temperature control

One of the main themes of the exhibition will be solutions intended for use with recycled materials. Feedmax Clean series feeders were developed for the requirements of the circular economy. According to the manufacturer, during the conveying of recycled materials these devices achieve separation efficiency of up to 80 per cent for particles smaller than 1000 μm, removing dust and fine contaminants from granulate to a greater extent than comparable devices available on the market. This is intended to translate into higher material quality and greater stability of processing parameters. According to the company, precise dust removal makes it possible to safely use recyclates also in applications with high quality requirements, for example in the automotive industry.

Wittmann also announces the presentation of selected granulator models intended for efficient and safe grinding of waste and runner systems for direct use next to the injection moulding machine. In the area of temperature control, the company will focus on the Tempro basic E temperature controllers. These devices are intended to combine high performance and energy efficiency with a compact design. The manufacturer notes that more than 20 years ago it introduced the Tempro Basic C series, whose main features were process stability, ease of operation and low purchase cost. In the new Tempro basic E generation, these assumptions are to be maintained, while at the same time further reducing the dimensions of the devices, which facilitates installation directly next to the injection moulding machine or inside an automation cell.

The new seal-less pump works with a high-performance asynchronous motor, which is intended to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs. Thanks to direct heat transfer from the heating elements to the temperature-control medium, heat losses have been reduced. A tubular coil with an enlarged heat transfer surface is intended to provide higher cooling capacity and longer heat exchanger service life. Tempro E temperature controllers are available in versions with an open cooling circuit, enabling operation with a medium temperature of up to 90°C or 120°C, as well as with a closed circuit offering temperatures of up to 140°C.
