Wittmann introduces Primus…

Wittmann will present the Primus 118 linear robot at K 2025, hall 15, booth B22. The model extends the application range of the Primus series on injection molding machines with clamping forces up to 250 tons and raises the available payload beyond the existing 5 kilograms. Users can configure the Primus 118 with either 6 or 8 kilograms of load capacity. According to the company, the added payload aims to increase flexibility and support efficient operation, including time savings during programming and routine use. The exhibition appearance is positioned under the motto Smart Choices, Smart Savings. The Primus series targets pick-and-place tasks and simple automation cells, and the Primus 118 continues this positioning while adding mechanical and control enhancements. It is equipped with the R9 robot control system as standard, which includes an OPC UA interface for data exchange with an MES and enables editing and saving of programs on a PC. Programming support features are designed to streamline setup for users and shorten overall preparation time.

Higher payload and reinforced axes

The Primus 118 achieves its performance gains through a revised design that incorporates stronger demolding and vertical axes, combined with more powerful drive systems. The robot offers up to ten valve slots, allowing various combinations of gripper and vacuum circuits, with up to eight vacuum circuits possible. For cycle-time efficiency, the Primus series is supplied with the SmartRemoval function as standard. This feature is designed to reduce part removal time and, by extension, the overall cycle time in pick-and-place applications and simple automation layouts.

Installation and control

The Primus 118 can be installed flexibly on different models of injection molding machines up to 250 tons in clamping force. The drilling pattern in the main beam remains unchanged from earlier series, which facilitates mounting on existing equipment. Control is provided by Wittmann’s R9 system. In its standard configuration, R9 includes an OPC UA interface for communication with an MES and supports editing and saving of robot programs on a PC. The system is designed to assist users during programming to save time. The QuickNew Wizard guides users through the programming process, aiming to simplify commissioning and operation.
