Using plastic responsibly: Südpack publishes new sustainability report

Südpack is also clearly committed to reducing resources and using them more efficiently in production. Energy consumption is one of the areas where this applies. The company uses an energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001 with energy officers working on an ongoing basis to identify improvements that can save energy. For example, energy consumption can be significantly reduced by regulating the process cooling required in production. In addition, plastic waste is consistently avoided and recycled in production. In relation to the quantities of film produced, the percentage of plastic waste from production has decreased by a further 10% since 2015, while at the same time Südpack has been able to recycle more production waste.

Into the future: economically, socially and ecologically

Südpack will consistently pursue its approach to saving and recycling in the years ahead. "Since our last sustainability report we have achieved important milestones on the road to becoming a sustainable company," Remmele is pleased to note. "But we have no intention of resting on our successes. In order to live up to our standards as an economic, social and ecological technology leader, we need to continue to develop not only our products, but also our company."

In addition to conducting research on sustainable films using mono-materials or bioplastics, ensuring that the staff are supported and directly involved in the company also plays an important role. "We can only achieve our goals with the help of motivated, highly skilled staff who identify with our company and our products," Remmele explains. In terms of social commitment, staff development is one of the key themes in the sustainability report - and for Südpack's development over the coming years.

In order to continue on the path of economic success, Südpack is focusing on retaining and further improving unique characteristics, including high-quality film solutions and comprehensive services with printing and finishing options. This will also help secure Südpack's main production site in Germany. "Achieving a balance between quality, sustainability and social focus ensures Südpack is well-prepared for the years ahead," Remmele concludes.
