Tosca is expanding the use of reusable point-of-sale equipment with its Crystal Clear display-ready crates and trays for fast-moving consumer goods suppliers and retailers. The solution is positioned as a direct substitute for single-use cardboard displays and is designed to improve durability, product protection and handling while reducing waste. The clear plastic construction allows full product visibility on the shop floor and can be combined with brand-specific graphics. A standardised structure supports operational efficiency, and modular options enable customisation to suit different campaigns and formats. The system is available through rental, purchase or pooling, with units tracked and maintained to arrive in time for in-store promotions. According to the company, switching from single-use display systems can deliver material reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and total cost of ownership, while helping users align with circular economy objectives and upcoming packaging rules.
Regulatory context and cost implications
The forthcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and extended producer responsibility schemes reinforce reuse as a priority by targeting waste reduction and assigning financial responsibility for packaging waste to suppliers. Tosca states that its reusable display solutions are typically exempt from EPR fees, offering a compliance pathway alongside potential cost savings. Laurent Le Mercier, president, Tosca EMEA, said: "In today’s retail landscape, with mounting pressure from regulators, retailers and consumers, sustainability has become a core business driver. With PPWR and EPR putting reuse at the centre of the packaging conversation, the time for sustainable retail transformation on the sales floor is now. Tosca’s reusable displays can help major brands transform their POS campaigns, streamline their supply chains, eliminate packaging waste, achieve cost savings, and meet packaging regulations with confidence. It’s a smart switch with clear environmental, promotional and commercial benefits."
Design, performance and in-store execution
The reusable displays are made from durable, hygienic plastic and provide a modular platform that combines a standardised frame with full branding customisation for high-impact POS promotion. Clear panels support product visibility, and open sides with modular elements are intended to simplify handling, cleaning and replenishment. The company specifies a load capacity of up to 36 kg per shelf, making the units suitable for beverages and other heavy goods. A foldable, quick-deploy design aims to shorten field team time in-store and reduce backroom waste. The concept addresses typical drawbacks of single-use displays, such as non-standard formats, inconsistent branding, frequent damage and storage inefficiencies.
Pooling model, tracking and service scope
Tosca offers the Crystal Clear displays within a Europe-wide service footprint and pooling network. The integrated offer includes design, manufacturing, logistics, tracking and maintenance, with availability planned to meet peak promotional periods. The pooling option provides tracked and maintained assets that are ready for deployment when needed. IoT-enabled asset tracking is available to improve supply chain visibility, support utilisation planning and logistics performance, and reduce the risk of displays not reaching the shop floor in time for promotions.
The company reports that switching to the reusable system can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 70 percent compared with single-use approaches, equivalent to 400–600 kg of CO2 savings. Tosca positions the solution as a means for FMCG brands and retailers to demonstrate progress against ESG commitments while maintaining in-store performance. The firm highlights the potential to standardise equipment, streamline execution and lower total cost of ownership. Formed from the merger of three specialist companies, Tosca focuses on reusable packaging for POS load carriers and provides ongoing R&D on display design, sustainability and ease of use.
