Tosca and Cabka launch the CP 1208 circular pallet

Tosca and Cabka launch the…

Tosca, in cooperation with Cabka, has launched a new circular pallet, the Euro-d Tosca Circular Pallet (CP 1208). The product is intended as an alternative to one-way packaging and load carriers in FMCG logistics, taking into account growing requirements related to automation and environmental regulations. According to the company, the pallet was designed as a PPWR-compliant solution, ready for automated environments and based on circular-economy principles, from production through retail distribution.

Laurent Le Mercier, Tosca’s EMEA President, points to changing expectations for standard load carriers in supply chains. "With increasing automation, tighter regulations, and rising sustainability expectations across FMCG and retailers’ supply chains, the demands placed on pallets are evolving. Our new circular pallet gives producers, growers, and retailers a standardised, automation-ready, PPWR-compliant alternative that improves efficiency, enhances worker safety, and supports a truly circular supply chain without disrupting existing operations."

The solution is positioned to respond to the regulatory and operational pressure faced by European companies, including FMCG businesses, by combining cost requirements with the need to reduce environmental impact. The pallet is intended to enable process modernisation without infrastructure changes and to support monitoring and asset management throughout its use cycle.

Design focused on supply chain efficiency

The Tosca CP 1208 pallet was designed to integrate into existing logistics operations. The 1200 x 800 mm dimensions follow the Euro standard, which is intended to ensure compatibility with Euro-pallet handling equipment and limit the need for costly upgrades or process changes. Rounded skid edges are used to reduce damage during forklift handling by lowering impact points compared with traditional square-skid designs.

According to the companies, the CP 1208 provides a stable, standardised platform to modernise the supply chain without downtime or major infrastructure investment. Alex Masharov, CEO of Cabka, highlights the role of recycled materials in transport applications. "This pallet demonstrates what circular logistics should look like in practice. By transforming recycled plastic into high-performance transport assets, we enable supply chains that are both more efficient and more sustainable. Together with Tosca, we are showing how circular materials can become the new standard for FMCG, retail and wider logistics."

The pallet is intended to work with Tosca’s reusable plastic crates. Integrated deck grooves are designed to secure crates in place without strapping, enabling more stable and safer double-stacked transport and more efficient load handling. In addition, RFID integration is предусмотрено to support traceability, asset management and end-to-end supply chain visibility.

Tosca CP 1208 pallet, construction features supporting automated handling

An alternative to wooden pallets in hygiene-sensitive environments

The CP 1208 is described as non-porous, easy to clean and splinter-free, which is relevant in FMCG, growers’ and retail environments where hygiene, product protection and quality are critical. The plastic construction is said to be made from a "unique blend" of recycled plastics and includes integrated drainage holes to prevent water build-up and reduce moisture retention. As a result, this is intended to support resistance to contamination and damage while maintaining consistent performance in automated storage and retrieval systems.

The communication also notes a cost aspect linked to the use of recycled feedstock, which is expected to reduce dependence on volatile input markets and support more stable operating costs throughout the year.

Workplace safety and ergonomics

The manufacturers emphasise features intended to improve handling safety across the supply chain, from warehouses and packing stations to retail distribution centres. The design includes smoothly integrated and well-positioned top-deck handles, improved stability and anti-slip features. It is also stated that the pallet is more than 4 kg lighter than traditional wooden pallets, making it easier to lift and move during daily operations.

The release indicates that this approach supports the social pillar of ESG by helping reduce physical strain on employees and lowering the risk of injuries associated with manual handling. Le Mercier concludes: "In high-throughput environments, efficiency and worker safety go hand in hand. By improving stability, grip and ease of handling, the Tosca CP 1208 helps reduce manual strain and the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, creating safer working conditions while supporting operational performance."

Designed for PPWR compliance and circular performance

In the context of the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the companies point to the growing importance of solutions that are designed to be reusable, recyclable and traceable. The CP 1208 is intended to support supply chains in meeting PPWR and EPR requirements, offering an alternative to wooden pallets, which require ISPM-15 heat treatment or fumigation and are presented as less aligned with circular reuse models.

According to the press information, the pallet is made from 100% recycled plastic and designed to be repaired, reused and ultimately recycled at end of life. The model is aligned with Tosca’s pooling-based approach and asset management. It is stated that durability and modular repairability are intended to lower total cost of ownership while reducing waste associated with short-lived single-use assets.

"At Tosca, we don’t simply supply a pallet. We partner with customers to manage assets and deliver supply chain performance, meet regulatory requirements, and turn circularity into a lasting competitive advantage," Le Mercier summarises.

The companies state that the CP 1208 is part of efforts to make food and beverage supply chains safer, more sustainable and more efficient. Combining a circular design with Tosca’s pooling and asset-management capabilities is intended to illustrate how regulatory compliance can be aligned with operational requirements within a long-term supply chain strategy.
