RecyClass launches TechAp tool for recyclability assessment

RecyClass launches TechAp…

RecyClass has launched the TechAp tool, a new online platform designed to streamline the management of recyclability assessments for innovative plastic products. The solution is intended to enable faster verification procedures at a time when nearly 100 assessments are expected in 2025. In this context, TechAp is expected to play an important role for the industry by accelerating the evaluation process in view of the upcoming requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

According to RecyClass, the European market is entering a new phase of waste management in which recyclability is no longer optional but mandatory. This is reflected in the statement by RecyClass Chairman Paolo Glerean, who points to the growing importance of designing packaging in line with the requirements of recycling systems available in Europe. In his view, the TechAp tool will speed up the introduction of innovations in packaging design by providing companies with a structured pathway for obtaining approvals that confirm the compatibility of new solutions with the current state of the art in recycling.

Companies interested in evaluating the recyclability of their products can contact the RecyClass team to initiate the assessment via the TechAp tool. The platform allows users to follow every step of the evaluation process online, from initial screening through laboratory testing to final approval. This approach is intended to ensure full transparency of the procedure and to shorten decision-making cycles for users and the entities responsible for the assessments.

The TechAp tool has been developed with the anticipated tightening and systematisation of recyclability assessment procedures under PPWR and its recycling targets in mind. According to RecyClass, the platform supports traceable decision-making based on science and standardised RecyClass Recyclability Evaluation Protocols. This is particularly relevant in the context of increasing regulatory requirements for packaging design and the need to document compliance with defined technical criteria.

Since the introduction of RecyClass Protocols, more than 400 innovative solutions have been tested. These figures indicate growing demand from brand owners, converters and technology providers for more structured and predictable processes in the development of products that are suitable for real recycling at industrial scale. The introduction of the TechAp tool responds to this need by combining innovation aspects with preparedness for future regulatory requirements in a single solution.

According to RecyClass, integrating recyclability assessment processes into a digital tool is intended to support faster adaptation of the packaging sector to the requirements of the circular economy. The platform is designed to facilitate the development of plastic products that can be processed in existing recycling systems, which is a prerequisite for a market based on actual rather than merely declarative material circularity.
