ReVentas, a company developing advanced solvent-based plastics recycling technology, has signed an engineering and licensing alliance agreement with KBR. According to the companies, the agreement is intended to strengthen ReVentas' position in the emerging dissolution recycling market and accelerate the international deployment of this technology through the engineering, technology and services capabilities of its partner. The proprietary process developed by ReVentas is designed to process post-consumer polyethylene and polypropylene waste streams. The technology purifies the plastic by removing colours, contaminants and complex waste-stream components, and then produces a natural pellet with properties close to virgin material. The solution is intended to enable the reprocessing of waste that would otherwise be downcycled, landfilled or incinerated into high-quality recycled resins for applications such as food packaging and automotive manufacturing.

The companies indicate that demand from brands for scalable, high-performance recycling solutions capable of delivering food-contact approved resins continues to grow rapidly. Pressure to secure reliable supplies of high-quality recycled plastics is affecting packaging converters, consumer goods manufacturers and resin producers. In this context, combining ReVentas' recycling technology with KBR's global engineering and technology licensing capabilities is intended to provide customers with a faster and more predictable route to new recycling capacity.

Deployment plans and plant capacity

ReVentas is currently completing the front-end engineering design phase for its first commercial demonstration plant. The installation is expected to produce 10,000 tonnes per year of recycled HDPE. Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2028. The company also states further deployment plans targeting more than 750,000 tonnes of ReVentas technology capacity by 2036.
