Gerresheimer extends its plant in the Czech Republic

Gerresheimer extends its plant… Gerresheimer AG, one of the world's leading suppliers to the pharma and healthcare industry, makes a further investment in the growth market of plastic systems for pharmaceutical, diagnostics and medical technology.

Before the end of this financial year it will have extended its Czech production plant in Horsovsky Tyn, doubling the size of the production area there to around 10,000 square meters. The workforce will then be increased from currently around 375 to approximately 450. Some EUR 12 million in total will be invested.

“The treatment of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and asthma is becoming increasingly widespread and significant. We intend to continue extending our share of the market with our medical plastic systems for diagnostics and for the safe and reliable application of medications. Our Czech plant will play a crucial role in this process because it’s one of our most modern medical plastic systems production facilities,” commented Uwe Röhrhoff, CEO of Gerresheimer AG.

For some years now, Gerresheimer has been manufacturing pharmaceutics packaging products and application systems made of plastic in addition to its traditional portfolio of glass primary packaging products. The Plastic Systems division is now one of the company’s fastest-growing divisions. Gerresheimer Medical Plastic Systems produces insulin pens for diabetics, inhalers for asthma sufferers, lancing devices and laboratory disposables for leading pharma, diagnostics and medical technology corporations – from the initial design sketches, through tool making and production to packaging and just-in-time delivery.

Inhalers, insulin pens, lancing devices and various diagnostic systems are manufactured in Horsovsky Tyn. The production floor where its highly automated production operations take place is currently being extended from 5,400 sqm to 10,400 sqm in a construction project that is due to be concluded before the end of 2011.
