Barmag presents integrated recycling and extrusion solutions at K 2025

Barmag presents integrated…

Barmag, a subsidiary of the Swiss Oerlikon Group, is set to highlight its commitment to sustainability at K 2025 by presenting a comprehensive suite of technologies for plastics manufacturing and recycling. Under the motto "Barmag Recycling Technologies – Closing the Loop. Opening Potential," the company will demonstrate how its integrated solutions support closed-loop economies, particularly in the packaging and chemical fiber sectors. Visitors to Hall 10, Booth H12, will have the opportunity to explore innovations from Oerlikon Barmag, Oerlikon Neumag, and joint ventures BB Engineering (BBE) and Oerlikon Barmag Huitong Engineering (OBHE). The focus will be on the entire process chain, from melt preparation and cleaning to conveying, granulation, spinning, and advanced filtration.

Polycondensation and melt homogenization for rPET

High-quality melt is crucial for producing superior polyester bottles, films, and fibers. OBHE's homogenization technology enables the thermomechanical recycling of post-industrial polyester waste, such as bottle flakes and film, ensuring a homogeneous melt and targeted viscosity increases. This process produces defined rPET precursors suitable for further processing, including direct spinning into fibers or conversion into granulates.

Extrusion and pump solutions for consistent quality

Modern plastics applications demand ever tighter product tolerances. Barmag addresses this need with advanced extruder pumps, which ensure homogeneous product flow through constant pressure and reduced pulsations. This results in consistently high-quality extruded products and reduces wear on the extruder. The GE and GC series pumps, with delivery volumes ranging from 4.7 to 12,800 cm³/rev, are designed to compensate for fluctuations in material viscosity, offering tailored solutions for diverse extrusion requirements.

For polymer production and processing, the GL and GD series monomer, pre-polymer, and polymer discharge pumps cover a wide range of production capacities and viscosities, with all models available as complete units. The ZP series gear pumps are designed for high-precision metering, making them suitable for demanding applications such as viscosity measurement.

Precision metering and drum pump technology

Barmag's GM and GA series pumps provide precise dosing for challenging media, including toxic or low-viscosity substances, across industries such as chemicals, plastics, paints, and coatings. The multi-stage GM pump is capable of conveying low-viscosity media under high pressure, ensuring accuracy even under demanding conditions. The Barmag drum pump is engineered for highly viscous materials like adhesives or silicones, enabling direct dosing from containers at pressures up to 250 bar, thus streamlining the process and reducing intermediate handling steps. The proven durability of Barmag gear pumps contributes to efficient, resource-conserving production.

Advanced recycling and filtration solutions

BB Engineering, a Barmag joint venture, brings decades of expertise in extrusion and filtration. Its single-screw extruders process a wide range of polymers, including PP, PET, rPET, PA, and PE, and are suitable for film production, synthetic fiber spinning, and PET recycling. With screw diameters from 30 to 360 mm and throughputs of 3 to 6,000 kg/h, these systems address diverse processing needs. BBE also offers extrusion cascades for high output and stringent quality requirements.

Filtration is a critical step in achieving pure melt qualities. The new COBRA filter from BBE sets new standards in continuous polymer filtration, featuring automated valve switching and integrated inline intermediate cleaning. This ensures uninterrupted operation and consistently high filtration quality, even when processing recycled materials with variable input consistency. The COBRA filter supports a maximum filter area of 24 m² and throughputs up to 4,000 kg/h, delivering high performance and process stability.

Integrated PET recycling: VacuFil and Visco+

BBE has developed the VacuFil system, a fully integrated solution for PET LSP recycling (liquid state polycondensation). VacuFil combines gentle, large-area melt filtration with precise intrinsic viscosity (IV) control, ensuring consistently high rPET melt quality. The modular design allows adaptation to various material qualities and end-use applications. At the heart of the system is the Visco+ liquid phase polycondensation unit, which enables continuous, precise viscosity adjustment for homogeneous melts—ideal for high-quality fiber, film, or packaging production.

Live demonstrations at the Recycling Technology Center

During K 2025, visitors will have the opportunity to attend an open house at the BBE Technology Center, located near the trade fair. On October 10 and 13, guests can observe live demonstrations of PET waste being transformed into high-quality recycled yarn (POY). The process includes further processing of the yarn using the JeTex air texturing system with a new auto-off unit, offering insights into the complete recycling and value-adding process. Participation is by individual invitation.
