BB Engineering and Barmag to showcase PET recycling at K 2025

BB Engineering and Barmag…

BB Engineering (BBE) will appear at K 2025 together with its parent company Barmag, a member of the Swiss Oerlikon Group, and associated brands. Under the motto “Closing the Loop. Opening Potential,” the presentation will focus on equipment and systems for sustainable plastics processing. The scope spans single-screw extrusion for a wide range of polymers, continuous melt filtration for stable processing of recyclates and integrated solutions for producing high-quality rPET melts. The companies highlight high-performance extruders, the Cobra continuous melt filter and the VacuFil system for PET recycling via liquid-state polycondensation. In parallel with the trade fair, BBE will host an open house at its Technical Center in Remscheid with live trials converting PET waste into POY and subsequent air texturizing. Visitors can find the team at the joint booth in hall 10, booth H12.

Extrusion technologies

Extrusion is a core competency at BBE, with decades of field experience and many thousands of delivered machines. The company’s single-screw extruders cover polymers including PP, PET, rPET, PA and PE, addressing demanding duties in film production, synthetic fiber spinning and PET recycling. With screw diameters from 30 to 360 mm, the portfolio addresses throughputs from approximately 3 to 6,000 kg/h, subject to material and process parameters. For applications requiring very high output together with stringent melt quality, BBE also supplies extrusion cascades.

Melt filtration

BBE complements its extruders with a comprehensive range of melt filters. The Cobra filter is designed for continuous filtration of polymers, combining automatic valve switching with integrated inline intermediate cleaning. The concept supports uninterrupted operation while maintaining stable filtration quality, a notable benefit when processing recycled inputs with variable properties. The unit provides a maximum filter area of 24 m² and throughputs up to 4,000 kg/h, helping to stabilize process conditions.

Integrated PET recycling

For PET recycling, BBE offers extruders, melt filters and the VarioFil R filament spinning system, as well as the VacuFil process for integrated recycling based on liquid-state polycondensation. VacuFil combines large-area, gentle melt filtration with precise intrinsic viscosity (IV) control to deliver consistent rPET melt quality. The modular design allows adaptation to different input qualities and application needs, with capacities from 150 to 4,000 kg/h. At the core is Visco+, the liquid-state polycondensation unit for targeted viscosity adjustment. Continuous IV control yields a homogeneous melt with suitable processing properties for fiber, film and packaging applications.

Open house at the BBE Technical Center

Leveraging proximity to the Düsseldorf Exhibition Center, BBE will open its Technical Center in Remscheid on two days during the K show for live demonstrations. PET waste will be recycled on test equipment and spun directly into recycled POY, with the new Cobra filter also on display. The yarn will then be further processed using BBE’s JeTex air texturizing system equipped with a new auto-doffing unit. The open house is scheduled for October 10 and 13, 2025, with participation by individual invitation.
