Röhm published its ESG report for 2025 under the title Building a Sustainable Future. In the document, the company states that environmental and social responsibility remains one of the pillars of its long-term strategy. The report presents both the basic principles of sustainable business conduct and the most important achievements recorded in the past fiscal year. The company emphasizes that already in the previous year it aligned its reporting activities with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards, fully incorporating the requirements arising from the CSRD directive. According to Röhm, this means going beyond the current minimum regulatory reporting requirements.
As COO Hans-Peter Hauck said, "Even as regulatory expectations continue to evolve and many requirements remain voluntary, we remain committed to delivering measurable progress and reporting transparently on our progress in the future. Sustainability and innovation are central pillars of our strategy." The new reporting standard is based on a double materiality assessment, which Röhm updated at the end of 2025. Within this process, reportable topics were evaluated according to their strategic and financial significance.
The company’s progress in sustainability is also reflected in external assessments. In 2025, Röhm once again confirmed its EcoVadis Gold rating while improving its overall score. The company also achieved strong results in the CDP assessment, including in the categories related to climate change, water security and supplier engagement.
Key areas of progress in 2025
Röhm states that through targeted investments and clearly defined strategic priorities, it combines sustainability efforts with sound business operations. The report identifies several areas in which significant progress was recorded.
Decarbonization
Röhm’s total carbon footprint in 2025 was 12% lower than its 2020 baseline. The company considers the commissioning of the MMA plant in Bay City, Texas, USA, to be a key milestone in reducing specific CO2 emissions. The facility uses Röhm’s LiMA technology, meaning Leading in Methacrylates, which, according to the company, provides higher yields, more efficient use of resources and significantly lower energy and water consumption. Compared with conventional C3 and C4 production processes, LiMA technology reduces specific CO2 emissions by up to 42%, supporting the decarbonization of Röhm’s product portfolio.
The company also reported that the Corporate Carbon Footprint indicators for 2023 and 2024 were externally validated in 2025.
Circular economy
Röhm provides interested customers with detailed carbon footprint data and corresponding life cycle assessments for all products, which together account for 95% of the company’s total revenue. The company also states that its Europe-wide PMMA recycling alliance significantly increased recovery rates in the region in 2025. In the company’s view, this demonstrates the value of industrial cooperation and the role of collaborative ecosystems in accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
Occupational safety and social responsibility
In the area of occupational safety, Röhm reported that the results not only met the planned target, but significantly exceeded it. The company improved workplace safety by 157% compared with the previous reporting period.
In 2025, the company once again supported the social initiative Im Zeichen der Lilie, organized by SV Darmstadt 98. The program is intended to support educational opportunities while also raising awareness among young people in areas such as environmental protection, climate action and sustainability. In 2025, more than 200 students from the Darmstadt region took part in the project.
