Husky Technologies and SEM Plastik San. ve Tic. A.Ş., operating through its SEM Biotech division, announced a strategic collaboration intended to support SEM Plastik’s entry into the production of vacuum blood collection tubes in Türkiye. As part of the project, the Ichor integrated medical system was deployed, designed for manufacturing medical components using precision injection molding. According to the parties, the collaboration is an important step in SEM Plastik’s diversification and is expected to strengthen Türkiye’s position in the regional medical device supply chain. The official opening ceremony for the installation was held on April 16, 2026, with the participation of Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, as well as representatives of SEM Plastik and Husky Technologies. SEM Plastik, established in 1983 and headquartered in Istanbul, is a regional plastics manufacturer expanding operations in packaging and, more recently, advanced medical manufacturing. The company states that its development is based on more than 25 years of engineering experience and international expansion.
SEM Biotech enters the medical components market
SEM Plastik reported that through its SEM Biotech division and the Vacusem brand it has launched one of the most precise and high-capacity production lines for vacuum blood collection tubes in the world. The declared capacity is 500 million tubes per year. The manufacturer indicates that the products are intended to meet the highest quality standards in Türkiye.
Vacusem tubes are manufactured fully automatically in an ISO 8 cleanroom environment and packaged under high hygiene standards. The release also mentions the use of “best-in-class” chemical formulations and components. The process and production setup are intended to meet European Union market requirements, with an emphasis on export-oriented growth. According to information provided by the parties, the investment is expected to support the increase of Türkiye’s share in exports of high value-added and high-technology products.
Yavuz Eroğlu, Owner-Chairman of SEM Plastik and President of PAGEV, the Turkish Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association, stated: "Diversifying into medical manufacturing required a trusted supplier and a proven technology platform. We are proud to serve the region with best in class blood collection tubes, and Husky’s support as an early adopter partner was essential in helping us turn this ambition into a successful and sustainable operation". The parties emphasize that the collaboration is intended to strengthen local supply chains and create a foundation for further development and market expansion.

System-level solution: Ichor, Schöttli molds and Advantage+Elite monitoring
Husky stated that the delivered solution includes the Ichor integrated medical system, Schöttli Medical Molds, and Advantage+Elite proactive monitoring support. This configuration is intended to enable a scalable, high-performance production platform for blood collection tubes. According to the release, the system approach is expected to reduce operational complexity while increasing throughput, reducing material waste, and stabilizing part quality.
Thomas Bontempi, General Manager Medical Business at Husky, said: "We are proud to support SEM Plastik’s growth with the deployment of the Ichor system, the fastest platform solution to produce blood collection tube in the market. By combining speed, precision, and full system integration, we are helping SEM Plastik establish a world class medical production platform in Türkiye". Husky also points to shorter cycle times and improved efficiency, as well as full traceability and process stability, which are relevant to compliance with stringent international medical requirements. As part of the implementation, dedicated training programs were also delivered covering system operation, medical injection molding, and process optimization.
