Envalior presents Envalior CARES strategy

Envalior presents Envalior…

Envalior, a global supplier of engineering materials, is consolidating its sustainability activities under the unified Envalior CARES strategy. The framework is based on three pillars: Low Carbon, Sustainable Resources and Social Responsibility. The aim is to increase transparency, accountability and effectiveness across key environmental and social areas, as well as to support customers in their transition. Core mechanisms and strategic commitments are already in place in the organization, including Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas reduction targets by 2030, dedicated teams for the bio-based and recycled solutions portfolio, audits across all European plants in line with the Operation Clean Sweep standard for preventing pellet loss, and an ambitious global safety program. - Our approach to sustainability is not just a part of strategy; it is part of our identity and a core company value. We see it as an opportunity to lead change and build long-term value for all stakeholders, says Calum MacLean, CEO of Envalior.

Low carbon: updated GHG targets

Within the Low Carbon pillar, Envalior has updated its Scope 1 and 2 GHG targets, introducing 2024 as the base year for greater data transparency and precise progress tracking. In 2016–2024, the companies that preceded Envalior reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 65 percent through operational and procurement measures. Building on this, Envalior targets a further 35 percent reduction over 2024–2030. Planned actions include sourcing 100 percent electricity from renewable sources by 2030, launching abatement projects at sites, and switching to low-carbon heat sources. The next step is to develop a post-2030 decarbonization roadmap reflecting the most up-to-date and actionable global climate targets. Once adopted, the company will set additional specific targets for Scope 1 and 2 and incorporate Scope 3 targets into its climate roadmap.

Resources: solutions for K 2025

The Sustainable Resources pillar focuses on conserving valuable raw materials used in products and on their most efficient use, considering the full product life cycle. At K 2025, the leading trade fair for plastics and rubber, visitors will discover Envalior’s latest solutions in this area. The company will showcase a broad portfolio of ISCC PLUS-certified materials which, compared with fossil-based counterparts, can offer a better environmental profile, including a lower carbon footprint, without compromises in properties and without material process changes on the customer side. Such drop-in solutions are enabled by an extensive supply chain, backward integration in key monomers, and polymerization capabilities.

Examples will include sustainable PA6 alternatives for E&E and packaging applications, including Durethan ECO and Durethan BLUE grades containing up to 90 percent ISCC PLUS-certified bio-based and recycled content, accounted via mass balance. The Stanyl B-MB PA46 range is also ISCC PLUS certified with bio-based content via mass balance, enabling a carbon footprint up to 50 percent lower versus the corresponding fossil-based grade. These solutions are being developed together with customers and partners to support more sustainable implementations across industries.

Social responsibility: partnerships and standards

The Social Responsibility pillar covers actions for employee safety and well-being and support for community initiatives in local communities. Envalior regularly reviews processes for alignment with global standards, adheres to international human rights standards and conducts periodic impact assessments. Alignment with industry and global initiatives is key to transparency; therefore, the company has joined the ICCA Responsible Care Global Charter, a program that promotes responsible chemicals management and sustainability worldwide. A core element of the initiative is reliable reporting that confirms continuous improvement in occupational health and safety and environmental protection. Since 2024, Envalior has also been a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, and in July it filed its first mandatory Communication on Progress, which is available online.

Reporting: first report and preparations for CSRD

The next step in improving reporting will be the publication on 8 September of Envalior’s first sustainability report. In the longer term, the company will be subject to EU reporting obligations under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and will be required to publish a sustainability statement in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards as part of its annual management report. The Envalior report is the first step toward ESRS alignment and will present a complete picture of commitments, actions and achievements in environmental, social and corporate governance areas, as well as material topics identified through stakeholder dialogue and a materiality assessment. - Our journey continues, but the direction is clear. We will keep raising the bar for ourselves, engaging stakeholders and investing in a more sustainable future, because we see it as the foundation of lasting success, adds MacLean.
