Bosch at interpack 2011 Bosch updates vertical form, fill and seal machine series for enhanced usability and smooth production.

Bosch Packaging Technology launches new controls for its SVE line of continuous motion vertical form, fill and seal machines at Interpack 2011 in Dusseldorf. An advanced human machine interface (HMI) enhances the ease of use of the machines while additional improvements boost flexibility and data sharing. The SVE line can produce a broad range of bag styles, such as pillow, block-bottom, gusseted, full corner and doy style, in widths of up to 360 mm. Fulfilling a variety of hygiene and efficiency needs, the SVE series can process a variety of consumer products like fresh food, pet food, biscuit, cereal and confectionery goods. It can also handle all sealing methods, including heat-sealing, poly heat-sealing and ultrasonic sealing for all bag styles.

The new Bosch controls allow users to independently and quickly adapt to new production requirements without the need for vendor support. Users can easily program additional functions and integrate new packaging equipment, such as labelers, transport belts and dosers, into their lines. Rockwell/Allen-Bradley controls can be used optionally. Intuitive operation via touchscreen is achieved by a simplified and structured user interface to reduce operator error and shorten training periods. Self-explanatory icons and quick access to production settings allow for quick set-up and adjustment of the SVE line.

With the new controls, machines in the SVE line can automatically vary their speed in response to the performance of upstream and downstream line equipment. This feature is a significant advantage, especially for parallel-producing packaging lines. If an interruption in any upstream process occurs or a film reel change is needed, the machine stops producing bags and influences downstream processes. The parallel-producing SVE machines automatically increase their output to compensate for the disorder. This feature avoids product jams, eliminates the need for operator intervention, increases Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and guarantees a smooth production flow.

The SVE line fulfills flexibility requirements and can also handle special applications, such as chainbags with a eurohole or sequentially produced bags in different draw-off lengths and different filled products. Data analysis and sharing are achieved through easy connection with OLE – Object Linking and Embedding – for Process Control (OPC).Quick data transfer to the manufacturing execution system (MES) provides an overview of the current production process. “Our new SVE line offers intuitive operation and easy setting options. Therefore, manufacturers fully benefit from the flexibility and productivity gains of our vertical form, fill and seal machines,” said Daniela Thiele, Director Product Management and Marketing, Bosch Packaging Technology.
