During the event, Borealis and Borouge will highlight new opportunities for improved performance and efficiency in the healthcare market. These include Bormed LE6609-PH for bottles and ampoules produced by blow, fill and seal (BFS) technology and Bormed SC820CF for soft medical film, pouches and tubing.

Bormed LE6609-PH was designed specifically to satisfy the elevated security and performance demand for sterilised products, reductions in material use and more efficient manufacturing. Offering the highest possible density and therefore melting point for a low density polyethylene (LDPE), this transparent BFS Bormed grade allows steam sterilisation at temperatures above 110°C. The high sterilisation temperature allows converters to further reduce autoclave residence time by up to 1.5 hours, speeding up their production cycle, lowering energy use and improving efficiency.

In addition, Bormed LE6609-PH’s high density and optimised molecular weight distribution (MWD) offers the potential for material and weight reduction of up to 5-7%. Converters and brand owners can make more lightweight products using the same material volume, while the resulting energy savings benefit both manufacturing costs and the environment.

Another Bormed development leading the way in creating new opportunities for improved performance and efficiency in the healthcare market is Bormed SC820CF for primary and secondary medical pouches.

This random heterophasic polypropylene (PP) copolymer for cast- and blown film applications combines softness with toughness and is steam sterilisable. It also maintains good optical and mechanical properties after retorting. Bormed SC820CF is intended as a blending component or co-extrusion layer for primary pouches with contents such as intravenous (IV) solutions, nutrition and dialysis fluids. Furthermore it is used as part of the solution for secondary wrap films for dust and vapour barrier and protection. This new material contributes to all PP pouch solutions, which serve as a viable alternative to commonly used glass bottles or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pouches.
