Arburg gains new sustainability certification for training

Arburg gains new sustainability…

Arburg’s training programme has once again received triple certification, covering the requirements of the international standard ISO 29993, the Learner and Customer-Oriented Quality Development (LQW) model, and the regional quality seal “1A Excellent Training Company” awarded by the North Black Forest Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). In February 2026, as part of an LQW audit, the scope of assessment was expanded with a new certification related to sustainability.

As explained by Training Manager Michael Vieth, obtaining the LQWN certificate involved meeting the criteria of the nationwide German BNE programme (education for sustainable development) and taking into account the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with their 17 objectives. “To obtain the LQWN certification, we have fulfilled the criteria of the nationwide German BNE (education for sustainable development) programme and also taken into account the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with their 17 goals for sustainable development,” he emphasises. He also adds: “This was not difficult for us, as Arburg has long been committed to holistic training, sustainability, and a comprehensive educational approach”.

Sustainability as part of the training programme

The new sustainability certification was awarded as part of the LQW audit for further education organisations. In addition to pedagogical principles, action-oriented learning methods and competence development within the training programme, economic, social, environmental, and political-institutional aspects of sustainability were also taken into account.

Trainer Marius Singer notes that Arburg’s training programme is built on a broad foundation. “Our training programme is built on a broad foundation. We rely on optimised processes and quantitative indicators of success just as much as on qualitative indicators of success. Added to this is strategic professional development, which ensures that we trainers are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and all the necessary tools to train and support the qualified personnel of tomorrow in line with current requirements,” he points out.

Practical projects and environmental activities

As stated, Arburg trainees regularly take part in projects intended to support sustainability. Examples include solutions aimed at reducing the company’s carbon footprint, which have repeatedly earned participants wins in the “Carbon Busters” competition organised by VDMA, a network organisation and an important voice for the machinery and equipment manufacturing industry in Europe and Germany.

The text also highlights the appearance of a trainee team at the “arburgGREENworld” pavilion during K 2025 in Düsseldorf, where they provided information, among other topics, on plastics recycling loops and Arburg’s resource conservation programme. At the same time, trainees are involved in local activities such as putting up nesting boxes on the company premises or collecting litter as part of “Black Forest CleanUp Day”.

Programme scale and upcoming intakes

To date, the mechanical engineering company has prepared around 2,400 young people for entering the world of work. The triple certification is presented as confirmation of the company’s commitment to training and of meeting high national and international standards. It is indicated that ISO 29993 confirms that the training programmes meet high requirements, and that the IHK recognises support for young talent that goes beyond requirements. The LQWN certificate, in turn, reinforces the sustainability aspect in training.

As reported, a new cohort of apprentices and DHBW students will start at Arburg in September 2026. The company states that a few apprenticeship places are still available in Lossburg for the current year, and that interested applicants can find information and apply also for 2027 at www.arburg.com/info/ausbildung.
