Efficient quality control on the Sioplas production line: RR Kabel opts for a Sikora device

2026-08-05

RR Kabel applies Sikora’s X-RAY 8700 NXT for real-time measurement and control in SIOPLAS cable production lines. The system measures wall thickness, diameter, eccentricity and other parameters at the hot position of the line.

RR Kabel relies on Sikora’s X-RAY 8700 NXT to ensure the highest cable quality in its Sioplas line

RR Kabel, one of India’s leading wire and cable manufacturers, uses Sikora’s X-RAY 8700 NXT to ensure accurate, real-time measurement and control in its SIOPLAS lines. The system is part of Sikora’s X-RAY 8000 series, of which more than 2,000 units have been sold worldwide. The series is used for continuous quality control in power cable production and provides measurements of concentricity, wall thickness, diameter and ovality. It also enables control of cables with up to three layers. Power cable manufacturers, including RR Kabel, install Sikora X-RAY devices for quality control in both Sioplas and CCV lines. The systems are also used for final quality control, supporting the delivery of cables that meet specified quality requirements.

Measurement at the hot position

The X-RAY 8700 NXT is installed at the hot position of the Sioplas line. At this stage, it immediately provides information required for fast centering of the crosshead and for automatic control of wall thickness. The system measures wall thickness, diameter and eccentricity at the beginning of the production line, allowing process parameters to be monitored at an early production stage.

According to the supplied information, this measurement concept is intended to ensure that only cables of the required quality are delivered to customers. In power cable production, early detection of dimensional deviations supports process stability and reduces the risk of producing nonconforming cable lengths.

Application range for cable constructions and materials

The X-RAY 8700 NXT supports a wide application range. It can be used for cables with solid, stranded and Milliken conductors, with single-, double- or triple-layer insulation. The system is also suitable for quality control of insulation material based on polypropylene, including High Performance Thermoplastic Elastomer (HPTE).
