Wittmann expands production capacity in Germany

Wittmann expands production… Wittmann Robot Systeme GmbH in Schwaig, Germany, opens a new company building in Feucht near Nuremberg.

The groundbreaking ceremony was celebrated June 15, 2012. During the last years, the order situation for the Schwaig-based company has been excellent – thus the need for a new building had become an urgent request.

Due to the strong demand for automation solutions and complete systems, Wittmann Schwaig had reached the limits of production capacity. The manufacturing of such systems requires more space – racking, assembly and other operations – than other kinds of manufacturing in the group. Wittmann has therefore met these increased requirements in the shape of the new building. There is now a total ground area of more than 12,000 square meters available.
The building is located in the easily accessible Feucht industrial estate near the A6/A9/A73 three-leg interchange in the South of Nuremberg. Here, 1,200 square meters of office space and 3,000 square meters of production space will arise. The new location will be home to some seventy Wittmann employees. In addition, Feucht will take over the coordination of field activities for 20 Wittmann service technicians.

A generously dimensioned technical center will allow Wittmann to operate a variety of customer tests and trials of injection molding machines and robots: The new technical center will also include a robotics training room that will be not only equipped with robots, but with the most advanced teaching aids. A complete material conveying system will also be installed on location in order to serve diverse demonstrations and to allow the feeding of the injection molding machines. The production hall mounting space will be equipped with two cranes of a capacity of up to 10 tonnes. In addition, the installations will include a CNC 3 machining center with sawmill and an electrical engineering department with control cabinet building. A total of 400 square meters of storage space will be allocated to house every possible Wittmann robot spare part. This storage – in connection with the in-house repair department – will allow the Schwaig location to further improve customer service and outreach.

The Schwaig groundbreaking ceremony was completed on June 15, 2012 and the move into the new premises is scheduled to happen at the turn of the year. The construction of the new production and administration building is being carried out by Freyler Industriebau GmbH based in Bergneustadt. Freyler previously and successfully helped to realize the refurbishment of the Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH building in Meinerzhagen in 2008/09.
